Even if Blanka is already stuck 500, if the ev of the seat is 1000 its still +ev for him to buy it at 700.
-200 > -500
there's no guarantee that his ev for the seat is 1k though, as all skills are never equal

Why are you willing to buy $350 of someone else's action but not pony up the $500 yourself to play? You sound like a pretty competent player and you don't make it sound like this other guy is better than you, so what's the deal here?

LOL...that is a very good point. Didn't look at it from that angle. Thanks. So then it's +EV for him all the way up to paying $999 for that seat assuming his skills are equal -499> -500. Paying only $700 his skills can then be about 25% less than the others? $750 expectaion on a $1200 investment.... -450>-500

$350 is less than $500. Also, a tournament of 4 players where 3 spots pay is much less variance than a tournament of 8 players where 3 spots play.

I could have played myself, that's true.

HERE'S THE TRIP REPORT GUYS!

I took the action. He came 3rd.

So overall you lost 100 dollars?

Perhaps in the future you should offer to buy the action on condition that you play the seat.

Yeah, down 100.

Thing is though, I don't have much experience at heads-up tournaments. I'm cool with full table and short-handed, but for heads-up I'd like to get some experience at smaller stakes first.

Blanka has experience with HU.

Thanks for the advice everyone! It seemed like value at the time, but now it looks to me like very thin value, bordering on low-velocity spew.
