Nigel Goldman's 'Make a million from online poker'.

Hope not as only books worse in my collection are 'Online Ace' and Doyle's online poker book.

I really wish I had researched these books before buying them. I was new to the game though.

Can't believe they are still on my shelf and not in a charity shop selling for 50c (which is still too much IMO).

It was Harrington on Holdem II. All six copies of it. Each one has only been opened one time, but that was all it took to trash the spine.

Good guesses. However the answer seems obvious once you know it. Think what type of (nitty) consumer would heavily read something without buying the damn book!

Default Poker for Dummies is actually pretty good.

Poker For Dummies?

[/ QUOTE ]

A friend knew I played poker, and that I didn't have a lot of money to buy books. (Hey, that's what interlibrary loan is for, and I'm not rich playing micorlimits quite yet).

She found Poker for Dummies at a bargain bookstore, and it was actually quite good. There is some junk in there (best players of all time, etc.), but much of it is very worthwhile for beginners.

They cover basic strategy pretty well. Other good areas are Money Management and Recordkeeping, Poker Tells, Game Selection, Position, and Starting Hands.

The authors also stress the importance of continual studying and learning, and among their author reccomendations are Sklansky, Harrington, and Caro. twoplustwo.com is mentioned as well.

I would have no problem giving a beginner this book. For someone who was starting at a very basic level, Poker for Dummies, followed by Theory of Poker, might not be a bad combination.
