Matt,
Its the right sort of idea: "Eat more food" but poorly implemented. You should eat more meals and try to get some nutrients as well. Your diet is devoid of vitamins minerals etc and very high in salt/trans fats. It really depends how dedicated you are. If you can't find time to prepare like a few meals a day that are actually good, you are far too busy or more likely... Far too lazy. |

Life decisions are what you make, but what you outlined above won't get you to your said goal possibly ever.
First figure out some goals and how important they are. Then find a way to get there. |

This is not T-Nation, this is not Bodybuilding, this is not a "if you can't lose/gain weight you are a [censored] wuss" forum. Like it or not, this forum's primary target is the average poster on 2+2 that has little to no clue on how to lose weight, bulk up, get in shape, be a better athlete, or understand nutrition. So, comments like "you suck and stop making excuses" are totally out of line and will result in a temporary suspension for 2 days. These comments are not productive whatsoever, and can be phrased much more constructively. [/ QUOTE ] Rearden: Just something you have to get used to, Thremp chooses to ignore this tone post even though it might have been created directly for him. His one sentence answers usually give virtually no help. Luckily most posters aren't like him. |

Would it be better if instead I wrote: "You plan isn't the best. I suggest a couple tweaks. 1) Read a book/post/memo/pamphlet/log about diet/nutrition. 2) Copy a workout plan. But I mean... You plan looks great. Don't let anyone tell you its really bad, cause you know... You can believe what you want." [/ QUOTE ] It would be better if you elaborated on the why, didn't post in such a pompous ass manner, and backed up what you said with examples. He was asking for help, not someone to tell him how much his plan sucks, his diet sucks, and everything about him sucks. Have just a little class...it'll get you somewhere. |

Creating a beginner sticky would be an incredibly good idea.
Overall though I think the point of 2+2 (outside of oot or bbv4life) is constructive analysis... anyone can say "that sucks" or "donk" or whatever the gym equivalent is but that shouldnt often get said here. MatthewRyan I respect your post and unlike other people dont expect you to have gone through every other topic in this forum. You're starting out and hey youre making mistakes... ok cool... we all make them and try to learn from them. I don't know anyone that was born with in depth knowledge of fitness. I think it's great that youre man enough to ask guys for help when youre a bit lost. I would hate for this forum to turn into a place where guys who think they know about lifting come in and wave their e*penis to seem tough... no one deserves that and beginners wont learn from that. The point of an advice forum, or responding to someone asking for advice, is to...... give them advice. Saying their diet and workout sucks is pretty useless as the poster would know this or else not be asking for advice and tips. Thremp I agree with you on a lot of points in terms of lifting theory, nutrition, etc. But I have never heard of anyone with your lack of credentials (I didnt see you posting in the "post here if youre a trainer" thread) or your own personal weight totals being this cocky... simple as that. If ripping on a guy with slim experience and offering no or little constructive advice is what gets you off... ok. I dont know how you are able to post the way you do. |

Good post Rearden. The thing about training is so much misinformation, poor information, and things being said without any evidence that they work exist. Hell I have some credentials and don't consider myself that knowledgeable really. The best way to learn is to ask questions, and when I started out lifting I asked them all the time, and I still do today. Strengh and nutrition isn't like poker, the math can't be right all the time with this. The field is so new in terms of science, we still have a lot to learn about pretty much anything. Many different ways to get lean, get muscular, etc.
If no one asks questions on this part of the forum then what is the purpose of it? We should be encouraging discussion and questions here, not trying to run people off IMO. |

[/ QUOTE ] To the best of my knowledge he is a guy that is into weight training. "Credentials" as far as trainers etc have are a joke. He didn't call the dude a moron or anything, he just told him to look at some real programs instead of whatever he came up with on the toilet. |

Ed,
I am not talking about a trend limited to this thread at all. Suitable creds could range from having held a position as a strength/conditioning coach to actually having numerous certifications or as I also mentioned excelling personally (there is a big difference between someone who has studied and applied the techniques/training to squat 500 in a coaching or even academic setting, someone who has personally squatted 500, and finally an individual who claims to know how to squat 500 yet lacks any elements of the first two examples). Many posters in this forum have personal totals and records which are very impressive yet few speak with any airs about them or their experience and proficiency; that is commendable |
