I think that a Starbucks job must be terrible and that is the reason they are always having to hire people. I don't think I could ever do it which means it's the taxicab for me if things go bad.

It's actually a super awesome job. You can get it with no experience. They pay very well for a no-experience job ($10-$15/hour) and you get good health insurance after 3 months or something. Yeah, you have to be friendly, and the hours are awful, the morning shift starts at 4 AM or something.

I worked at mcdonalds and was a telemarketer for a stint. I find it hard to be repulsed by a job because of a lack of respect. If I need to make money to feed myself I will swallow my pride for 8 hours a day.

In response to the question, I could not do a job that involved heights. I could not handle doing roofing or anything 10 feet off the ground even if I had a harness.

Anything where you have pretend to be cheerful all day, like workers at Disney World or flight attendants or anything like that.

[/ QUOTE ]
You don't fly that often, do you? Flight attendants don't even pretend. Most have "bitch" tattooed across their forehead.

my fear of heights seems to compound year-after-year.

it is now to the point that i cannot walk next to the handrail on even just the 2nd story of a building.

in tall building with windows that expend to the floor, i cannot get within 5 feet of them without holding something and sneaking up on the window.

fairly freaky chit.

I'd be fine in a job where people don't respect you for working it (like poker pro to some extent) - but how you can do jobs like those where the people you interact with all day long just treat you like [censored]? Doesn't that just sap the humanity out of you? Don't you want to jump over the counter and beat the crap out of them? Where's your outrage?

I should probably hedge by adding...

If it came down to losing my house or not being able to feed my family, I could do most anything, except cold-calling or any sort of telemarketing.

Those people have no soul.

Assembly line, or any repetitive factory work.

I've tried and quit within days.

Strange side story. I worked for a fortune 300 company, and our Quality group wanted to institue a cross training program. There were people in our warehouse who's entire job was as follows:

1. Pick up piece a from converyor belt 1.
2. Pick up piece b from converour belt 2.
3. Connect piece a to piece b and put in a box.

8 hours a day. 5 days a week. The Quality group assumed that this must be the worst job ever, and we should start cross training these people so that they could move up into better jobs and develop careers in the company.

The cross training was pretty much universally rejected. No one wanted to be cross trained. I guess there really are people out there that want to walk in, shut off their brain, do menial work for 8 hrs, collect a paycheck, rince, repeat...

All the jobs I ever had I worked directly with the customer. And yes, there are many times where I would much prefer to smack a person in the face as opposed to explaining to them our return policy or assisting them 15 minutes after the store is closed. It does suck the humanity out of you. But if I needed a pay check, if I needed to put a roof over my head I would do it. I would hate it, but you gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet.

This is why I always stick up for the worker in threads where people try and think of ways to [censored] with employees at some random chain store. It seems as though sometimes these people who treat me like [censored] are just having horrible days of their own, which sucks and I do not need to add to that. Or they are just bad people in general, and I don't feel the need to deal with people like that, just handle them and get them out of my life before their [censored] attitude rubs off on me.
