Awesome. The government would require ISP's to retain this data, but offer no financial assistance to the ISP's for this service. Damn government.

"America slowly collapses into a police state."
Slowly? They analyze the contents of your body before you can get hired for most jobs and run a credit check. You had an illness and couldn't pay your bills? Too bad. Desirable citizens and undesirable ones. I lived under commumism - crime was rampant. Just because they didn't report it, doesn't mean it wasn't there. What really worries me, Americans re-elected Bush (not that the alternative would've been better). Means they don't understand what's happening to them. If 23 million Americans played online poker and 5% are winning players, there's a million Americans trying to enter the work market or at least trying to get supplementary income. Good luck. |

There's already browser plug ins for Mozilla that do random Google searches every few seconds to cover your tracks. Now they just need or might already have programs that send random instant messages and emails.

It's amazing how different America feels now, post 9/11. Ten years ago, no one worried about having phone calls tapped, internet usage snooped, etc. Most people were never seriously concerned about the president actively circumventing laws, allowing torture, fabricating intelligence to start an illegal war.
Ten years ago, I'd never have given any credence to fears about being persecuted for my (lack of) religion or witnessing the cancellation of presidential elections. Damn you terrorists for making us so afraid we'd hand over our rights like we do our taxes. |
