she said something about weed? why didn't you say "yes, i've smoked weed in the past 30 days." i don't see how it could affect anything. also, you definitely want to get the laughing gas. it's so much fun and makes dental work almost worth it.

I don't think you guys understand the context. When they go over all of this crap, he is getting general anesthesia. He won't be conscious so they aren't going to give him nitrous as well, not that he could feel it anyways.

I had the IV when I got mine pulled 3-4 years ago. I remember the surgeon talking to me about football and then waking up feeling groggy and drunkish in a different room with a Sports Illustrated in my lap.

You don't feel anything right after the operation because of the painkillers. However, in the few days after, your cheeks swell to chipmunk level and you will experience a dull, constant pain.

Other Cons:
- I had to stick gauze pads in my mouth for a few days (I had all 4 taken out) and when I took the pads out they were all bloody and filled with puss. Not the prettiest sight.
- You can't really do anything for the few days after, you have to ice your cheeks on and off for 30 min. at a time and you feel like crap the whole time.

After 3-4 days you will be fine.

To your original ?:
I don't think weed will have any effect on your anethesia. You will be OK.

Fedfan,

You didn't get a general anesthetic? No way would I do that.

Extractions vary a lot. I had mine done with just gas and had no trouble. My sister basically had her entire jaw opened up and her teeth cracked up and pulled out in pieces. She went with the general...

Oh hell yeah I had novocaine+laughing gas. I didn't feel the laughing gas, but the novocaine made the whole experience super easy.

1) You're going to die. It's our common destiny. But not from having your wisdom teeth out, unless your'e really unlucky.
2) AFAIK, weed and anesthetic go together fine. You could probably smoke DURING the procedure, if they would let you.
3) You will NOT have general anesthetic. That means being intubated and put on a ventilator. They are likely, if an IV is involved, going to give you versed, which makes you unable to form memories, so you won't remember the procedure. It's a wonderful drug, but.....
4) Nitrous oxide is more fun......

I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out this summer. There was a fair amount of blood the first day, but nothing too serious. By day 3 or 4 I was fine. It's not a big deal at all.

One important thing: DON'T WASH/RINSE YOUR MOUTH OUT. On day 1 I decided to rinse my mouth out, and the holes started bleeding and didn't stop for like an hour.

make sure you get the nitrus. that is some serious [censored]. inhale that as hard as you can. its like your leaving the world into darkness.

after you're out, ask for hydrocodone. if they give some kind of bs, like ibuprofen tell them you have intense stomache pains from it; get Oxycodone if possible.

good way to get meds, and then take them later for recreational use.

I had mine out a year or so ago. The doctor came in and asked if I was ready to go. I said yes and they gave me a shot in the arm (it could have been an IV but I dont think so) then just stepped back and watched me fade away. They woke me up after and I was pretty stoned. I was high-fiving nurses and couldnt really walk so they wheeled me out to the car. The next few days were spent lying on the counch popping Lortabs. There was no pain at all, just be sure to keep your mouth clean.

I wish I could have that done about once a year.

I had the NO and the IV. I worked that day and my appointment was at 3pm or something. My boss was joking that they could do whatever they wanted to me while I was under and I'd have no idea. I thought this was pretty funny.

The doc hooked me up to the NO and put the IV in and made me put this rubber block in my mouth. He turned a dial on the IV and asked my how I felt. "Fine". He turned it again and asked how I felt now. "Fine". After two more turns of the dial he had this concerned look on his face. The next turn sent me into deep space. I woke up trying to spit out the gauze and the nurse made me stop and asked me how I felt. I looked down at my shoes and said "my shoes are still on, so I must be OK". I was referring to the conversation with my boss earlier but all she did was furrow her brow and ask if I was in any pain. I let her know in my loudest voice that this was nothing compared to my hemmorhoid operation--no pussywussy stitches on that one baby! My hole was coderized and I have never experienced anything that painful in my life. I would gladly break my collarbone again before going through that again. My wife was there to pick me up and was cracking up and trying without success to get me to stop talking. I was halfway home before the fog started to lift. Recovery was awesome. Could have done it on Advil, but Vicodin is so much more fun.
