Wierd, so what your saying is that when you dress like a total degenerate gambler, people treat you like a total degenerate gambler?

people who profile your look and play accordingly are making a mistake. As a young black guy i get people who assume i cant play for [censored] all the time, especially if i decide to yap it up at the table. in the end these guys realize their mistake when they glance down at their chipstack.

Against an observant player I'd think it wouldn't matter at all.
Nobody below 30/60 seems to be the least bit observant so maybe. I usually don't go anywhere without a collar and I seem to get played with a lot. I'll try to go out without shaving and try it again. Most of the time I wear my nicer clothes because I don't have anywhere else to wear them and I'm cheap (I used to have a different job and still have a wardrobe left over). |

[/ QUOTE ] Dunno. I saw an older Russian Armenian guy call a pot sized all in bet with a gutterball and two overcards on the board. He was dressed real nice. You think he can play? If you can play well and your opponents are donks it doesn't matter in the long run. Chatterbox doesn't matter either. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would agree with this if you said "People who profile you and play accordingly, AND REFUSE TO ADJUST TO ACTUAL OBSERVATIONS, are making a mistake." I think profiliing is fine for someone you've never seen...its more likely to be right just treating them as random. You still have to pay attention and adapt. |

I never put a lot of thought into it, but it's a good question. Do people tend to give less action to better-dressed players? I might bust out my sport coat. [/ QUOTE ] less skilled players..yes. you dont have to be a great poker player to be observant. |

When I first went to the casino near my place and started playing the big game there, I completely ran over the table. I later realized that all of the middle-aged regulars there probably just figured that a 22 year old kid in tshirt who rode his bike to the casino (in the rain, damn it) wouldn't make bluffs and plays with the amount of money we were playing for.
So basically, my table image (that of not a baller but just some kid who's getting a really lucky run of cards) lets me destroy them. I think if I went in wearing a suit, or even just a nice shirt with a collar and pants and whatnot, I'd lose a fair bit of the respect I get now. Remains to be seen how long it takes for them to realize that i'm a player, better than they are at poker, and willing to make big moves. |
