You suggestion seems about right to me. He has decided to slow play his kings, but then decides to bet when a card comes that can beat him... I don't really understand that play. I also think that if his opponent had an ace, or a decent draw, he would have bet as most people do on the 6-handed tables. With that information, MattLarson has to figure to have the best hand still if it is double checked to him even when the ace falls. He could have waited until the river to put out bet out there in order to allow his opponent to catch up a little to induce a call.
Or he could have just bet at the beginning in the first place, which would have been the straight forward play and IMO is the best play possible here.
