i was thinking that if he's solid he isn't betting AK on the turn, what with the maniac in the pot and all.

I agree about the river, but I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't c-bet the turn with AK.. If he has something like AKc, it's even more likely.

isn't one last barrel worth it sometimes here in hopes that your opponent will fold a pocket pair (getting 9.5:1 as a bluff)

Rarely worth it with AK, and especially not worth it when villian overcalls a QJx flop and check/calls the turn. It's debatable whether that's even a pocket pair 1 in 9 times much less one that plans on folding.

We have to have a PP and fold it. That's very unlikely.
