Happens all the time, where someone says “You Win, I only have the bottom pair or Ace High’ and ends up winning the pot. Cards speak, unless they mucked their hand.

What got me upset on one occasion was where the player says “You win, I got nothing and show their cards”, and after I show my hand of two pairs, The dealer correctly points out and say to the other player, sir you have a straight, the winning hand and push the pot. The dealer then looks at me apologetically and said that Cards speaks.

But I was also wondering how I could defend it if the floorman did decide to check the tape

Rack up your chips, cash out, and leave.

He accurately declared his hand. He still wins.

[/ QUOTE ]

He only declared that his opponent would win. He never stated what his hand was. And if you notice in the OP, he was going to lose the pot until the floor found out that he had tabled his hand before the muck.

You musta missed this:

I knock the table and say, "You'll win, I just have a pair of 7s."

I did. My error.

But my point about the floor's original decision is still valid. He was going to lose the pot. Good decision, bad decision, whatever. And in many places, the manager will automatically back up the floor, unless it is a horrible decision. And as you pointed out, your only recourse is to cash out. Minus the pot.

I can't spend much time on this right now but beware there is a movement among floorpeople from the old days (some of who are now in management) to resurrect the old "you win" rule from the LA lowball days and/or the pre 1997 rule books typically used by the big clubs. I'm *generally* against this given the ease of misunderstanding or mishearing verbal declarations in noisy, crowded card clubs in a town where hundreds of languages are spoken.

If there is more comment I'll try to get back tonight.

~ Rick

PS I'm generally a quiet player too, although I do have chatty periods, like yesterday when I sat next to a guy who seemed as knowledgeable about movies (excuse me "film") as you. One time I'm especially quiet is on the showdown, except to point out my hand simply and exactly when it is the winner and the dealer seems not to notice.

I pretty much agree with this floorman. Given how you acted in the actual hand the only way you are losing the hand is if the player mucks his hand in the moment when you say "you'll win" before you say what your cards are.

Isn't getting an opponent to muck (via angleshoot) done in general by OVER-declaring your hand? If the OP had said, "You win if you can beat 10's" or "You win. I only have 10's" and the opponent mucks, then the opponent should get the pot regardless if he mucked.

However, the OP accurately described his hand. Or, even if he had just said, "You win" that is kind of under-declaring his hand, which I don't see as a problem. Why would a guy muck his hand after someone says, "you win"? It makes no sense.

When a players says "you win" they are conseding the pot. The other player nows mucks his hand to make room fo rhte dealer to push him the pot. The is a related angle shot that I don't like at all, a player says you win, so his opponent turbo mucks to get his hand in the muck.

Why would that get you upset? Assuming that your opponent actually showed his cards -- instead of saying, "show their cards," as your post indicated, but which wouldn't make sense -- then cards should in fact speak.
