First negative review from J. Hoberman of the Village Voice:

Neither a debacle nor a bore, The Departed works but only up to a point, and never emotionally.

This movie looks awesome. Goodfellas and Casino were both excellent movies, Scorsese is a great.

.....Have you seen any of his 'earlier' movies?

Mean Streets.

Taxi Driver.

Raging Bull.

If not, you should take them in.

I have no seen any of his "earlier" movies. Then again, I hadn't seen Goodfellas until a month ago. I have Infernal Affairs now and I am going to watch it tonight....then seeing TD tomorrow afternoon. I also have Before Sunrise (or Sunset, whicihever was the first one) and CSA coming via Netflix. Should be a nice little weekend of movies

Wowowowowow. No wonder people are looking forward to this movie so much. I just got done with Infernal Affairs. I found it absolutely amazing. It was stunning how awesome this movie was.

I'm giving it a 9/10. My major complaint--oddly enough--was that I would have liked the two female storylines to both be fleshed out a little more...(Not the writer, the other two). I think that could have added another dynamic to the story and been pretty powerful.

I am so pumped for tomorrow now. That movie was superb.

I think the shrink didn't neccessarily needed to be fleshed out all that much, but a bit more on the ex would've been nice

Well my thought on the shrink was why even really include her if you don't flesh it out. And I thought it really COULD have been something pretty strong if they did it right....And obviously the ex was just wayyy too little.

I haven't seen 2 and 3 yet..do they address the child/ex thing in the prequel?

IA3 really fleshes out the relationship between Yan and the Shrink. The ex gf appears at the beggining of the 2nd one but they don't go to deep into the relationship.

Just got back from the matinee showing. I found this movie absolutely amazing. I was left with a couple questions...but nothing that I didn't try to deduce the answer anyway.

I thought every actor was amazing, especially Leo. He has come a loooong way from Titanic in my mind. I thought that the original fleshed out a few of the relationships better (Sheen and Leo's relationship didn't seem as good as the original duo in my eyes). Beyond that small complaint, I thought this movie was well done in every aspect.

Edit for a question. I couldn't find an answer on the IMDb threads yet. So this is a spoiler...Please don't read without seeing this movie.... Who's kid was it? ...That is all.
