I deposited $100 to play limit HE on Party. I started at 0.5/1 and worked my way up to playing the middle limits. This month I have played 10/20 through 20/40. I have been a winner at every level I have played, though I have had to continually learn more to keep moving up. I don't see any limit to my progression at this point, but I am also aware that I will need to keep improving significantly if I want to continue to move up.

i bought into a live 5-10 limit game with 150$ of my own and 100$ worth of borrowed money. I had nearly 70$ is singles from tips at the bottom of my stack and i was down into them several times, winning every hand that i put a single into i ended up nearly 200$ for the night.
That was four years ago, now i multitable 10/20 and 20/40 limit for a living. My biggest strangth? Bankroll management .

It seems like most of the success stories, ZeeJustin, Ozzy_87, Action_Jeff, they all one won huge tournies to get their roll started, and little do you hear about the guys like me who deposit 200 bucks and try to be patient and build up slowly moving up stakes. Hopefully I will be able to sustain the patience and do so. Does that ever work? Wouldn't it be so nice if I could win a huge tourney liek they all did, but hey, life sucks...

I know many guys who've made it where they are through gradual bankroll growth and grinding it out in low limit games before slowly progressing up the limits. There are plenty out there.

I understand my situation may be very different, but what kinda timeframe are we talking here before you or your guys "friends you know" moved from low stakes nickel and dime online poker if you will to high, profit yeilding poker...just curious, as I said I know I could very well take a much shorter or longer time as there are so many variables...

Well I win more $/hand than any of the young guys here but like two , but it took me a solid 6+ months of dicking around in small stakes games without any real purpose, and then another 1+ yr of studying and learning the game and working hard at it to get to the point of finally making what you might call "real" money (ie $100-300/hr range) and now there is no looking back.

There are some who have won $100,000 in like 3-4 months of experience, and some of them are actually really good players, but they have benefitted tremendously from lots of good luck whenever they try moving up to a new limit. They have accelerated quickly, ran hot, and been fearless in calculated risk taking.

addendum: the "Well I win more $/hand than any of the young guys here but like two" was sarcasm. It's actually more like 4 or 5.

Think about how many people, that you've never heard of before, win large amounts of money in MTTs everyday. Only a handful of them pan out to be successful "pros". Bankroll management is probably the single most important aspect to becoming a successful, winning player.

If you are reasonably intelligent and work real hard on your game, then lots of people have achieved the following:

1) A couple of months dicking around in microlimits and bonus whoring

2) A few months slowly bankroll building and learning fundementals in small stakes

3) Moving up to the mid limits around 6 months to a year and a half later, where you can earn a good wage (i.e. more than 90% of the population), playing out of a 5-figure bankroll that you have built up from scratch.

This is definately achievable for most people, but like most things in life, it all depends on how hard you work at it.

i don't have a 100k roll but i went from a $50 deposit to having a bankroll for multitabling 10/20 limit in about six months without winning a tournament and just playing limit HE.

i am a college student and live at home so i don't have many bills, but i make a perfectly good living off of poker. not taking out student loans is definately a plus.
