Obviously it is tough to give you a good answer to a general question. But the key is to think about how the hand you are holding plays best.

For example, your scenario of AJ in MP with a couple limpers. AJ is going to play best in shorthanded, if not heads up pots. It is not a great drawing hand and is just going to get you in trouble in multiway pots.

So, if there are a couple limpers and your in MP, just fold t. If there are a limper or two and your in LP, you can raise it to isolate and hopefully get HUs.

However, a hand like 87s plays good multiway. So, this is a hand you could limp behind players in LP.

Small pairs are also easy to play in multiway pots. No set, No bet.

These are just a few things you need to be thinking about when trying to decide the playablility of a hand.

It is not the newest post, so everything is old party structure and such, but still a very good read
