If he were incompetent with the ladies or extremely ugly, going that route is ok. This is just my opinion.

I've had two real relationships. One was junior year of high school that lasted 6 months (but we just both weren't ready), and the other was freshman year of college for 9 months. That was my best chance, but it just didn't happen. It was long distance for the last 6 months. We did everything else but we just didn't have sex. Right about the time the physical side of our relationship would have reached that point the emotional side fell apart and we broke up. It sucked too, because we talked about having sex all the time on the phone before it fell apart, and I feel like if I would have just seen her once after that it would have happened.

No one is going to care that you're still a virgin, but your next girlfriend will probably think you're a bit dirty if you went to a bar and hooked up with some mom "just to get it over with".
