Awesome post Quark!

I'd just like to point out that players often underrate the effect they're personal problems have on their game.

My little 14yo dog died at night recently. I couldn't sleep so I decided to get some poker in. I dropped 9 buyins in three hours.

I think your last bullet-point is too euphemistic. Let's just be blunt about what it means:

Don't date psychotic girls. It will [censored] up your game, for real.

Good post. Very true on all counts. I hate playing when I know I'm majorly off in one of those areas.

Nice post. I especially like your quotes and examples. As I mentioned via IM, I'm going through a downswing so I can use a good inspirational talk.

Thanks for taking the time to post that. I agree, lacking a good foundation in your personal life and habits will show at the table. I want to share a little story about myself. Over the course of about 4 - 5 months I played holdem exclusviely for about 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, and did almost nothing else. While I generated a decent roll, from my initial $130 deposit, I really killed the "fun" aspect of the game. No longer enjoying the grind, I started playing reckless, loose, and misguided. As a result, my bankroll diminished, like OP said, and I stopped lusting after the game. Poker sucked.

Took a month off, now I'm playing abridged sessions, and limiting my weekly intake, and playing better poker than ever. My winrate is growing exponentially, and I'm having fun. If it weren't for posts like these, I'd probably have cashed out, and wouldn't be blessing you, and SSNL with my presence.

Once again, thanks Quark!
