Money belt. Its also not a bad idea to stash a large bill in that tiny little front pocket if you are wearing jeans.

i have a zip up wallet type thing for my documents and passport and important things. i usually leave it in my hotel room safe. money i just keep in my pockets, either jeans or in an interior pocket or a pocket with a zipper.

I had a money belt, and I had a tote bag I carried every day. I kept my passport, credit cards and most money in my money belt, in my tote bag I had my camera, whatever amount of cash I planned to use for the day, and anything else I needed. I preferred the tote bag to a back pack because I wore it on the front as opposed to my back.
I stayed in hostels for my trip, at night I would tie my tote bag to my bed and sleep on it. It was a decent pillow more than a few times. |

Sometimes when you get mugged they take everything... That includes your shoes and your backpack.
