However, when I reached the section where he describes visiting the home of an online poker player who has a card reading programme, that allows the cheat to see what cards his opponents are playing, I just couldn't figure out who was the bigger sucker -- him for buying this story, or me for buying his book. [/ QUOTE ] It is possible that since this guy has been around for a while, that he was referring to a hack that was available when online poker was first starting up. I can't remember which site it was (probably one that no longer exists) but basically their shuffling algorithm was terribly flawed and instead of actually allowing all possible shuffles to happen it only had a relatively small subset of possible shuffles. Someone figured it out and wrote a program where if you could give it 5 cards and when they were dealt it vould tell you all the remaining cards as well as the future board cards. So basically if you saw every flop you got to see everyones hands and know the turn/river ... or you could work as a team of 3 and just know everything preflop. |

If he'd wanted to be taken in any way seriously, then he would have at least offered some account of the way that such a programme is purported to work. Presumably, the cheat would need to have software installed on the server that revealed the hand history for a game in progress. How does the cheat gain access to the server? How does he defeat the intrusion detection methods that the gaming sites have in operation? [/ QUOTE ] Actually this is quite plausible, unpatched windows os's have numerous holes which a hacker can exploit, installing a trojan which allows complete access, screenshots, hand history logs, etc. The cheater would have to find the game the the compromised player is in, and get into that game. Implying that there are programs that can reveal all of your opponents hole cards is ridiculous though. |
