blarg, could you expand a bit? I'm not quite sure you're being clear here about your opinion and thoughts with your brief statements. Be a little more verbose please. [/ QUOTE ] Verbose and multi-part questions beget verbose and multi-part answers. I don't mind a little jibing though. |

[ QUOTE ]
I fail to see where the Dad was told no twice before asking for the manager. The hostess said yes. Later the waiter said no. So he only had gotten one 'no' before he asked to speak to the manager/owner to explain that they weren't doing what he was told they would do. [/ QUOTE ] This should have been passed back to the hostess or whoever the waiter's supervisor was. That's the two No's. If the hostess still had a yes, that means she needed to resolve this with the owner. Doing so would have given her her second No. At that point, the matter should have been settled. A little comp would be a nice touch. If the two employees and owner together were too incompetent to manage this much, then all bets are off. |

I'm really confused on Blarg's logic through the whole thing. It's the father's fault for believing the lower-rung employee in the first place. But when something doesn't go smoothly he's supposed to have 100% faith in the same lower-rung employees? Which is it? [/ QUOTE ] What does this have to do with faith? |

the kid sounds pretty spoiled if he actually got upset because they wouldnt sing happy bday to him. my parents would have asked once and if they were told no that wouldve been the end of it. anyways, i am sure that his parents will be telling this story for years. [/ QUOTE ] QFT. Thank you KKF. LOL at parents thinking this qualifies as drama and trauma. Strongly suspect the kid was made to feel much worse by the parent(s) making a big deal out of this. |

Further, the employees this type of thing is usually complained about to generally have zero authority to change a policy anyway, so getting on them about it is a complete waste of time [/ QUOTE ] Blarg, I thought your recommendation was that he was ONLY supposed to take the employees' word about it. Now you're saying that the employees can't do anything about it. Isn't this why he's supposed to speak to the manager instead of try to complain to some waiter who is just following the rules? |

[/ QUOTE ] Six year olds have an attention span of about seven seconds. "Where is da waitar mommee?" -- "OK, everyone lets sing."... Kid forgets about it instantly. Instead, it looks like they sat at the table whispering to eachother about the audacity of the owner, threatening amongst themselves to call the police, considering tearing up the bill, planning to email their local news station or filing a complaint with the better business bureau. |

Blarg,
"Further, the employees this type of thing is usually complained about to generally have zero authority to change a policy anyway, so getting on them about it is a complete waste of time that can only lead to multiple people getting tense and upset." That is exactly why I wrote: "In this situation, asking for the manager is perfectly appropriate. In fact, I applaud the father here. He doesn't yell at the waiter or get an argument with a guy who is just doing his job. He asks for the person who has the authority to actually do something here." |

I gives a [censored] if they sang to the kid or not. obviously, the parents thinking it is some kind of outrage is gay. also, singing like that by the staff in a restaurant is annoying as [censored] anyway. also, i completely agree that the group should have just sang themselves. why the [censored] does the kid need the staff to do it? |
