In this month's issue of Maxim, Dan Marino ranks the current top QBs.

"Tom Brady
Dan says: 'He's number one over Peyton because he's won three Super Bowls. But both of these guys are in a league of their own.'
Telling stat: Brady is 10-1 in playoff games
Factoid: In 2004 Brady became the youngest QB to win his second Super Bowl MVP. It was his third year as a starter.

Peyton Manning
Dan says: 'I don't think he's missed a snap as a starter. He's just your great prototypical franchise quarterback.'
Telling stat: Peyton has a career passer rating of 94.0
Factoid: Peyton roughed up Marino's record for touchdown passes in a season when he threw 49 TDs in 2004. But can he beat his dome baby rap? "

The list is rounded out with Carson Palmer, Marc Bulger, and Eli Manning.

I think it's very surprising to see Dan Marino of all people glorify Brady solely because of his Super Bowl rings. After reading the Patriots rant thread I think it is very surprising to see Brady even mentioned in the same breath as Peyton Manning when talking about all time greats.

Not to mention Eli Manning in the top 5, Eli Manning isn't one of the 5 best quarterbacks in the NFC East.

LOL at Marino putting Peyton below Brady because he doesn't have a ring.

It's a pretty typical thing to do. Ex. "I'm think Peyton is better and I'm a Pats fan" as if the fact that it's different then what your inner fan would tell you is comperable to fact.

The fact that he has ELI MANNING in his top five quarterbacks means that MAXIM picked the top 5 and made him comment on them

Re: LaDanian Tomlinson.

I don't think anyone is saying that Turner is as good as Tomlinson, or even close, really -- durability for a top-tier RB is a huge plus, and succeeding over 80 carries is way different from succeeding over 350 carries. However, the fact that Tomlinson has ben outperformed by his backups on a per play basis every single year of his career (according to DVOA) suggest that a big chunk of his success is due to his offensive environment.

I can't prove this, of course, but I think it's very reasonable that if you put LDT in an average offensive environment for RBs, he would put up numbers more like, say, Rudi Johnson or Stephen Jackson, and less like Marshall Faulk or Walter Payton. And in that case, he would be considered a very good/excellent RB instead of an all-time great, though he would be the same exact player.

I missed this thread, and I'm kinda glad that I did.

Brady > Manning.

Montana > Brady

Even Elway > Manning so far

You didn't read what I wrote did you, you just quoted and ignored.
Dan Marino never won a ring, so if he says Peyton is better no one would listen because they'd say "Oh he's just saying that so QBs with no ring will look better" whereas if he says Brady is better, it lends cred to his point because it's the oppisite of what his "homer" pick would be.
