a very good article in the july issue of the 2p2 mag about stack-to-pot ratio's. I'd advise everyone to read it

i read the article.

i disagree with authors in playing for pot control on the turn with KK on a Th7c5sQh board. i'm betting again baby (or stack a donk)

[/ QUOTE ]

the authors did not say to play for pot control on the turn.

if you feel you can get all-in profitably, sure get all-in. stack-a-donk works fine then.

have you ever played in a live game? You'll see 6-10 bb preflop standard in most games. I find 3xbb raises very rare, but I've only played twice in casinos.

Also, I like to vary bet size by position live. I'll raise more up front and less later.

I really don't get the article at all. I'm trying to maximise my EV, not make my decisions as easy as possible. It's nice to be less bluffable but there are other factors to consider.

According to their scheme for the 6bb raise with KK, the implied odds for set mining must go way up.

[/ QUOTE ]

everything about SPR is maximizing EV.

we never advocate raising to 6bb routinely. the example allows for that raise because we define the opponents to be indifferent. the example serves to show how much easier the hand becomes if you COULD make the larger raise and still get called by a wide range. online usually you can't, but you can still use effecive odds to your advantage.

there are many factors to consider in any hand. effective odds/SPR should up there, right after "how does my opponent play?" and "what are the stack sizes"

you've read about 2% of what we have to say on the subject. more to follow July 20.

looking forward to working with everyone in the dungeon!

I never quite understand this. If you are manipulating the pot beforehand to make yourself commited on the turn you are deciding beforehand that you are going t get all in no matter what. If you decide this then what does it matter what line you use to get there?

I think you are missing the underlying concept behind the article and taking it a little to literally.

ok, i'm keeping an open mind and will re-read it again. perahps when sitting at fishier tables i'll experiment by raising larger preflop.

Alright I'm trying to wrap my head around this but it's giving me a headache.
I see that increasing the preflop raise makes the rest of the hand play itself. On that flop of course I continuation bet with KK, and with that pot on the turn I'm getting it all in with that hand 100%.
Easy play...all streets +EV...pot committed at the end.
Still feels weird making myself pot committed just to make the decision easier.
I'll read it 5 more times...its slow at work
