no, this:

gotcha

yeah, it does tend toward preachy near the end. but considering what she went through just to get the film made, i'll let some preaching go

yeah, i just didn't think it was preachy. came across, to me, as pretty real. thought mehta adequately portrayed the complexities of the perpetual struggle between heart/mind and religion/culture. if the film was at all pedantic, it was subtly so, in my opinion. wouldn't say that mehta was heavy-handed in the delivery.

what's in your avatar now?

Primer

really enjoyed it .. demands a 2nd watch at the minimum

[/ QUOTE ]

Definitely a good one. It was probably the first time I ever absolutely had to watch a movie twice to catch everything.

I saw Babel yesterday.. It bored me, I felt no compassion for any of the characters, there were no stand-out performances, some of the behavior seemed absurd, the connections were pointless.. 21 Grams/Amores Perros are still awesome though.. but the non-linear storyline thing is getting a little, I dunno.

300:
I was really excited to see this one, felt a little let
down though mainly due to the weak story and pacing/editing.
The visual style and the ridiculously over the top scenes made it entertaining to see for some good mindless action though which is what most people will go out to see it for. I actually plan on seeing it again but drunk this time.

The Salton Sea:
Way better than I expected. Val Kilmer does a good job as usual. Vincent D'onofrio plays a villain named Pooh Bear that just has to be seen, his character is genuinely disturbing and frightening. Really nice cinematography also. Lots of twists and turns, somewhat contrived but this was probably the most entertaining movie I've seen all year.

Zatoichi-Festival of Fire:
I'm a sucker for samurai movies and I haven't seen a Zatoichi film that I havent liked yet.
