I'm sure Beckham is very popular and famous all around the world. I just think Jordan was just so much more popular and recognizable 10 years ago that he is still more recognizable than the great Beckham.

Anyway the thread wasn't about Beckham vs Jordan.
It was about who the top most recognisable people in the world are.

With 1+ billion people in China, 1 billion+ in India, probably it's someone you or I havn't even heard of. I'm sure there are Bollywood stars recognised by more people than Beckham or this Jordan fellow would be.

And surely you agree Bin Laden > Jordan in terms of global face recognition. I don't think anyone knows or cares who Jordan is/was in Sudan or the Middle East but they sure as heck know Bin Laden.

I could be wrong, but I don't think people in China or India have enough televisions to have someone be super famous in those countries, especially together since China censors a lot.

Isn't Bollywood meant to be bigger than Hollywood now?

why is everyone so down on the pope? there's a billion catholics, and they all know what he looks like. probably most every orthodox christian knows what he looks like too.

[/ QUOTE ]

incorrect, i am a non-practicing catholic and wouldn't be able to tell the pope apart from my local baker.

also, no idea who david beckham is.

i'd be able to pick out Jordan, McCartney, Bush, and Woods immediately though, like most Americans.

I think Yao Ming, Schumacher, and Ronaldinho would be top 10.

I showed pictures of each to my girlfriend, she recognized Bush, the Pope, Beckham, and Tiger Woods. She did not know Jordan or McCartney.

Beckham mainly because she lived in Scotland for a year.

lucky jim you are so dumb.

a large percentage of the chinese population knows who michael jordan is. he just recently visited there, as well as basketball being a huge sport in china.

just because you know nothing doesn't mean anybody else.

and again, does the silhouette make things easier? i'm sure the nike swoosh is almost universal, as in the air jordan silhouette.
