this sounds soooo familiar, most regulars in my live limit game think I'm the rockiest tightest player to have ever walked the earth and they give me huuuuuge respect when I raise and I'm loving it

I really don't understand why you would want to force things to change your image, let it work for you, I get to steal a lot more pots because of my image against some of the regulars and the donks are paying me off regardless, so I get the best of both worlds

imo getting to steal a pot is > than getting an extra vb or two in

[/ QUOTE ]

but his way is so much more fun

HOWMANY,

Did I used to give you rakeback?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I am who you think I am.

Just got back from a fun 40 session where I ran hotter than the sun, having everything go my way in almost every big pot and flopping pairs like it was going out of style.

Adjusting your image is usually a reactionary thing and something you should not worry about but there are certain situations that make it situational. Preferring one over the other rigidly is not adjusting and -EV.

In tighter games, I would lean toward wanting to have a more solid image because there will be more pots to be involved in, play HU, blind steal spots when I won't necessarily have a hand, and other situations that I might want increased FE.

In looser games, I would lean toward appearing more loose because pots will be multi-way and I'm more concerned with getting paid off on hands that hit and value betting with impunity. Raising near-neutral EV hands like T9s multihanded is too fun to pass up too.

Point is, you shouldn't stick to wanting one image automatically.

Here's a sample of what I've been facing lately and the semi-dissembling that I've been doing (and feeling a bit dirty about it):

2 Asian guys on my left the other day. Both are saying they never see me lose (not true, of course). One says he read a book once that says if you play only the best hands you'll be a winner and he tells me that since I'M doing it he should too. I tell him those books were written years ago when the games were different but these days you have to play way more hands (also true, imo). Difference is that I play fewer 'way more hands' than they do and play them better. 'But you always win', they continue, and I'm trying to get them to 'understand' that it's a swingy game and all of that. 'Luckily' (on my last hand of the session) they got to see me lose $200 w/ pocket Aces.

I've got to toss in the occasional 'crazy' play, just like they do. And I'm still able to take advantage of my solid image. The advice that I give most often once we get past basic strategy and self-control stuff and all that is to never do the same thing the same way all the time. You've got to keep them wondering, willing to gamble w/ you, but also worried, imo.

HB: Given the volume of hands you post, I have no doubt that you're a regular enough in your games where a marginal or -EV steal raise could be shania-esque profitable. In a vacuum, your post didn't say much either way, but after all, this is LC. I was commenting against a "I WANT XXX IMAGE" mentality in the response I saw.

Oh, I know that and didn't mean any criticism of you at all. Actually, I thought that in the low-content thread we were just replying to the 'just above' poster in order. Next time I'll be sure to quote/reply directly to the poster that I'm addressing. Sorry about that.

I'm a strong believer in the contingency theory (business school), also every advantage has it's disadvantage and vice versa

an X image is never always better than an Y image, it all depends

but if you've created a certain image you should def exploit it to the max and I don't believe forcefully trying to destroy it accomplishes this, at all

I believe that having a tight image in MY live game for ME is def > than having a lag image, bc I'd only bluff the regular players who I know are capable of laying a hand down against me and I'm sure that gives me more value than getting an extra value bet in, bc I'm not playing a game where I can value bet many marginal holdings, bc I'm not playing lag and what I do against donkey's doesn't really matter since they're only playing their own cards

anyways, I'm playing a rebuy tourney tonight and I'm going to make the final table, you just know sometimes, I'M GONNA PWN!!!! it's gonna be mine, all teh monies, MINE, AAAAAALLLLL MINE!!
