I agree. The tiger only having 61% of the votes is a travesty. [/ QUOTE ] You're obviously not following the thread. |

We need a revote because there UFC fighter should be replaced by "horde of five year olds"-- This should not be specific, it should just be the weight of the animal in five year olds, or maybe double. Or at least give the animals a five year old rating, you know, like a chess rating. However many five year olds they can take, that's their rating. 1800 for the elephant, 1400 for the hippo. Or something.

I'm not going to wade through all the replies, but was the point of these polls to show how uneducated the masses of OOT are about the animal kingdom? If so, job well done.

You should sell this idea to Animal Planet. Their ratings could probably use a boost. And you could get Jeff Corwin to coach the UFC guy ("Now, the interesting thing about crocodiles is...oh, you're dead, never mind").

Ok so I was just discussing this with my roommate and he claims that an ultimate fighter could in the second round against the elephant try some sort of frontal attack maneuver to take out the eyes and then when that's over hold on the elephant's tusk as he thrashes about. He did say that slipping off the end could be problem but eliminating that he sees absolutely no reason why the human couldn't hold on for some time. He does think the elephant would be a favorite to win though.
I don't see any chance in hell that a human could hold on to a damn elephant's tusk for more than a couple seconds, a few at absolute most. |

Crocs can run up to like 35 mph IN A STRAIGHT LINE, but can't turn at all...they are easy to out maneuver. Also, a five year old can hold their jaws SHUT...they have virtually no muscles to open their mouths. They have mad wicked muscles to close, though. Any good athlete with 3 days to train could beat a croc. Josh [/ QUOTE ] Saltwater crocodiles get up near 20 feet and 2000lbs. Sure, if you get its mouth shut you can hold it shut. But how on earth is a human going to kill it? Strangle it maybe? I don't see that being easy. |

[ QUOTE ] Got to leave town for a few days. I'll be back Tuesday night and we'll go on to round two. As of now it's: Lion beating Rhino in what now looks like a surprise. Elephant beating Grizzly. Tiger somehow still with a commanding lead over Hippo. Crocodile coming on strong vs human based on the "how will the UFC guy actually kill him, plus the croc will just roll over and crush him whenever he tries to sit on his mouth" angle. Good luck to all our contestants. Lion vs. Rhino could be a key fight as Rhino seems like the most likely to be able to upset the Elephant. [/ QUOTE ] I think we need to re-vote as many people were uninformed about the hippo. This shold really be done in debate - point/counterpoint format. [/ QUOTE ] If I could change my vote I would now vote for the croc. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Elephant vs. Grizzly: This seems pretty clear for the grizzly. We aren't talking about Smokey here. I think a full grown grizzly has the speed, agility and claws/teeth to inflict some serious damage on an elephant. [/ QUOTE ] I agree wholeheartedly with everything except this. full grown bull elephants routinely kill lions. stomp, stomp see ya. in a to-the-death format, the elephant has to be the far and away favorite. I think north america gets shut out in this tourney. [/ QUOTE ] Great post. That's why Elephant was the #2 seed. Lions kill them too, it goes both ways. But as the King of the Jungle, the Lion benefitted from media hype to get the #1 seed. [/ QUOTE ] How many lions does it take to kill an elephant? I'd imagine it's more than 1, particularly since lions won't usually be going after the biggest badass elephant and that's what we're dealing with here. |
