[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What is it about American firearm ownership that Europeans (and others) just can't stand? [/ QUOTE ] The part where +10,000 die each year. It's not the ownership of guns that is upsetting people so much, it's the unwillingness of many Americans to even acknowledge the downside that comes with it. Being so unwilling to even think about gun control leads to blind spots, and sometimes to some pretty wacky conclusions (ie "Let's arm professors!"). If you honestly weigh the pros and cons and decide it's worth it for your country to allow citizens to carry guns, then that's fine. It's the unwillingness to even look at the possibility of regulations by some that is baffling to others of a different culture. There are pros and cons to carrying guns. They have to be explored honestly. [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of "honest exploration", why does it seem that nearly all of the pro-gun-control folks just seem to FLAT-OUT IGNORE the large body of statistical evidence that runs contrary to their personal conclusions? Studies done by the CDC, the UN, and many other independent organizations...??? [/ QUOTE ] Please share this large body with us. It has been my impression that the majority of reliable sources point to less violence in areas with less guns. I'd gladly read something that points to the contrary. |

[/ QUOTE ] Apparently you somehow missed the links in these recent threads on guns and gun control. I didn't post them, but others did. Please go read them. In particular, you may wish to search NCAces (or is it NYCAces?) fairly recent posts, since he posted a number of links to studies. |

[ QUOTE ]
Especially since almost all western industrial countries but the US has stricter gun laws AND less murder rates. I think it's pretty obvious. It's like what more proof do you need? Just look to whatever country you want that has a good, strict gun-control. [/ QUOTE ] You need to do a lot of reading son. Wiki switzerland gun politics. Then read the samurai, the Mountie and the cowboy. |

[ QUOTE ] What is it about American firearm ownership that Europeans (and others) just can't stand? [/ QUOTE ] The part where +10,000 die each year. [/ QUOTE ] How many gun deaths are drug related? (that means these deaths are from prohibtion, NOT gun laws) How many are suicides? What is the per capita suicide rate in Norway compared to the us? Suicide deaths are a result of suicide, NOT gun laws) What difference does it make HOW someone kills themselves? Take those (drug related and suicides) out and then you have something to talk about. Additionally, what % of the remaining deaths are a result of a person who is addicted shooting someone or being shot int he course of a robbery (thise are prohibition deaths too) |

So I don't see how you can say that our drug laws are responsible for the high murder rate. |

Go compare the per capital expenses on their drug war to ours. Additionally, in countries with socialism or high rates of welfare or government funds handed out their is less of a draw to become a drug dealer. |
