Being from Minnesota, Kirby Puckett's death was a big shocker. It's amazing how someone so loved could have such a troubled private life after his retirement.

Also, Paul Wellstone, in manner and timing.

Oddly enough, the only celebrity death that ever really bothered me was Brandon Lee. I wasn't even that big a fan of his, but there was something cool about him being Bruce Lee's kid. I was in middle school when some kid mentioned he had died, and I just couldn't believe it. I was living overseas in the pre-internet days and I remember spending the entire day after I got home watching CNN International hoping it wasn't true. There was nothing about it reported that night and I thought it was just a false rumor, but the next morning it was on the front page of the paper.

While I grew out a Yankees fan I watch a lot of baseball so I also watched a lot of mets game growing up. Every Yankee announcer Ive heard since I was 5 has sucked. While I have rooted for John Sterling to die a few times it did bother me when Bob Murhphy died.

No one mentioned Krista McAuliffe? Surely some of you guys watched her die live.

Princess Di got to me in a way no celeb death ever has. She was the mostly widely covered woman in the world for over 15 years, just wall to wall, and then she's suddenly gone. And the outpouring afterwards was unlike anything any other celebrity has ever generated, even John Lennon. The closest comparison is the whole JFK assassination.

That actually "got to" you? Mother Theresa's death was in the newspapers the same day, but she got shunted to the back pages.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mother Teresa is vastly overrated. In fact, if you look into her beliefs and what she really did, she's actually quite repulsive.

FWIW Mother Teresa died six days after Diana and it was pretty widely reported.
