Indy did get lucky getting all those TOs especially the one when Baltimore was on the 3. Another thing Lewis really isn't that great of an RB and the Indy pass D is the strength of their D. Once Indy got up, the Ravens pretty much abandoned the ground game.
On Ravens 2nd Half Drives when down by 9: First Drive: 6 Pass 0 Run Second Drive: 8 pass 4 Run Third Drive: 5 Pass 1 Run Fourth Drive: 2 Pass 1 Run Fifth Drive: 1 Pass (fumbled) Indy can stop the pass, has trouble with an effective running game. Baltimore has a marginal running game that is favored when the team is leading. Once they got a deficit, they forced the pass and laid their grave. |

Their passing game wasn't working very well either. They didn't have a first down till late in the 3rd quarter b/c both facets of their O were pretty much ineffective. Another thing is the ends on the Colts got a lot of pressure on Green which they hadn't really gotten all year long. Can't run + Can't pass = a loss unless your the Bears .

Also, is the Colts defense really improved? Or is the change due to the fact they played a team with a terrible offensive gameplan (KC) and a team with a terrible offense (BAL). I mean, put 11 of me out there and I am pretty sure I could limit Baltimore's offense to 14 points. [/ QUOTE ] Garbage. Baltimore had an above average offense. |

[ QUOTE ] Kyro, I wouldn't say that KC came in with a terrible offensive gameplan, I'd rather say Indy came in with a great defensive gameplan(even though it was obvious). KC was just doing what every other team wanted to do against Indy, the Colts just didn't let them. The Baltimore game, eh, it was on the road against a team that had a week off. [/ QUOTE ] So if the Colts weren't letting them, why keep doing it? [/ QUOTE ] I'm thinking it has something to do with the facts that: 1) Trent Green (in his return to Indiana, go Hoosiers!) absolutely SUCKED since he came back, made worse plays than Peyton, and Herm refused to even think about putting in Huard. 2) Let's be honest, if YOU'VE got Larry Johnson against the Colts, you've got to just be waiting for the time when he breaks them down. I spent the whole game thinking "oh [censored], here comes the breaker"...and it never happened. And Baltimore has anything but a "terrible" offense. Steve McNair, despite being too old to really do what he used to, isn't some schmuck off your high school JV team. 27 on the Bucs, 21 on the Panthers, 35 on the Saints, and a combined 58-7 throttling of the Steelers in their two games. And then there's former league rushing champion Jamal Lewis against that same horrid rush D I just mentioned for KC. Cutting down Indy's opponents doesn't really do anything for your case, since everybody said "this is the week the Colts go down" both times. |

Baltimore's offense is average at best.

Baltimore's offense is average at best. [/ QUOTE ] This is an ignornant statement. Once Billick took over the play calling B-more averaged right around 22 points a game. That is above average and almost as much as the Colts averaged. You may personally think they are average because of the way they looked against the Colts, but the fact of the matter is they were averaging 22 points a game, which is good. You also have to take into account that the team is built around the D and not turning the ball over. The offense is built to play from ahead, and to take care of the ball. They were able to do neither of those during the game which hurt them. I wouldn't say they were world beaters on offense, but they were above average and a unit that took care of the ball well. They didn't take care of the ball well Saturday and it hurt them big time. Don't underestimate how the Colts D is playing right now because they have only played the Chiefs and Ravens. |

When you turn the ball over 4 times, it's going to be tough to have a good O especially when you turn it over at the 3. Baltimore scored a lot of points at the end of the season b/c their D got A LOT of turnovers, they lost the TO battle 4 to 2 on Saturday. They scored a lot of points b/c they had a balanced game plan. They ran appromately 30/20 (60/40) run to pass. Which is kinda balanced but during hte regular season they forced the run a lot more.
The key thing was, Indy forced Baltimore into things they usually didn't do which was turn the ball over and pass a ton. And it led to their demise. |
