I truly hate Capello as our manager but I gotta give him credit, he does know how to win championships. Amazing.
Can't believe we're in first. This would be a great revenge for those come from behind wins by Barca in the early 90s.

And the team has been entertaining too the last few games! For the first time in years pretty much!

The Sevilla game had everything that's so great about Spanish football. Attacking football, goals, great drama and of course ridiculous refereeing bordering on the comical.

And the Espanol match...just WOW.

What happens if Real and Barca have the same result for the next match and Sevilla doesn't jump over them? Is there a one game playoff or what happens?

Just read the official page as I wasn't sure in the case of a 3-way tie.

If two teams are tied, it goes to record between those two. This means that Real Madrid have the tiebreaker over Barcelona. After that it's goal difference in matches between the two so Barcelona have the edge over Sevilla. If that is tied (as is the case for Sevilla - Real Madrid) then it goes to difference in goals scored. Sevilla currently are 4 better than Real Madrid.

For a 3-way tie they put the 3 teams in a group and only consider matches between them. Real Madrid comes out of this tiebreaker top as they have 7 points, Sevilla have 6 and Barcelona have 4. Real Madrid would then be kicked out of the tiebreaking procedure and Barcelona would get second because they scored one goal more than Sevilla head to head.

So if Real Madrid and Barcelona are tied then Real Madrid are champions. If Real Madrid and Sevilla are tied then Sevilla are champions unless Real Madrid score a bunch. If Barcelona and Sevilla are tied Barcelona are champions. If all three are tied Real Madrid are champions, Barcelona second.

Getting second is better than third because you go directly to the Champions League group stage. Sevilla being tied with one of the two is reasonably likely because it would take a draw from them plus Sevilla winning any given week to make it happen. Schedules are such that if the top teams slip up now it's likely to be a draw and not a loss.

Ridiculously tight league right now.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have 69 points, Sevilla 67, Valencia are still barely in it with 65.

Remaining matches:

Real Madrid
Deportivo home
Zaragoza away
Mallorca at home

Barcelona
Getafe home
Espanyol at home
Nastic away
note that these last 2 are both Catalan teams.

Sevilla
Zaragoza at home
Mallorca away
Villarreal at home

Valencia
Villarreal at home
Levante away
Real Sociedad at home

Sevilla's best chance is for Barcelona to lose to Espanyol or draw both Espanyol or Getafe and have Zaragoza get a result over Real Madrid.

New001 could you run all of these using your system? I'd be curious what it says the probabilities are.

I'd be happy to. Send me a PM tonight if I forget, I'll do it as soon as I get a break from poker if I can remember.

Zaragoza will play a huge part here. For me they've been the most exciting team of the season. Victor Fernandez teams are always exciting it seems. I remember Zaragoza in the 90s and later Celta Vigo especially playing some great football. And Zaragazo this season has been no exception.
They are certainly capable of beating both Sevilla and Madrid.

I'm pretty sure Espanol will put up a fight against Barca but I doubt very much a team like Nastic will. From what I understand it's a team closely linked with Barca and their stadium is likely to be full of Barcelona supporters as well.
