Angus - no. Not until they have the checks in their hands. Perhaps they will start to get publicity surrounding the deal. I use the term "online pro" as "someone who earns their primary income from playing poker online", which both of them do.

They sound like the scumbags. Maybe trying to shake Gold down? |

Angus - I don't know personally if Gold is shady, so I retract the comment. Of course, rumors fly around about anyone.
My friends are not even close to scumbags. In general, I thought this might be an interesting piece of news for 2+2. Perhaps it is more interesting to me because they are friends of mine and we play in a weekly home game (well, prolly not anymore). I have never trolled on 2+2, again, I just thought the commmunity might want to know about something like this. Also, for such a ridiculous amount of $, I was curious about the legality behind backing deals, how they are enforced, if a written contract that is legally binding is signed etc... -Al |

[ QUOTE ]
So. Before the ME began, I had a list of people I hoped would win the WSOP, obviously speaking from a "Good for the game" point of view. I wanted a woman to win. I wanted a teenager to win. I wanted someone good looking to win. I wanted a poker celebrity to win. I wanted a poker pro celebrity to win. I wanted a complete retard to win. Here's what I didn't want to win: Anyone old Anyone who didn't speak english Anyone who didn't want to represent the game Anyone rich Anyone who represented themself very poorly at the table Anyone who would cause "average people" to dislike them at the table. Jamie Gold is middle aged. I think an [censored] at the table. Nobody has ever heard of him. He's not good looking. He's not a chick. He doesn't want to represent the game(ala Raymer). Could anyone worse have won? Am I really off here? I just don't see this guy attracting ANYONE new to the game. [/ QUOTE ] It won't really matter if he doesn't attract anyone new to the game when online poker is banned in the U.S. The poker boom as a whole is gonna mushroom inward and you're not gonna see tournaments this size again. Angus - sigh. OK, well I'm assuming if and when they get paid their names will come out. Sorry you did not back Gold also (as am I for myself).
Peace. -Al |

Angus - here's a link that notes my friend (they don't show his wife) has 50% of Gold.
Pokerati Link I hope this is (initial) proof enough. Oh, and note this was posted yesterday and I am in no way affiliated with "pokerati" -Al |

In poker, I want to see the best player at the table win the tournament.
Gold was not that player. It's not hard to dominate a final table when you have 3/4 of the chips and your opponents (excluding Allen) play like beaten stepchildren. I don't think Gold will be a particularly great poker ambassador. He seemed as if he wanted all the money and fame without the responsibility. If he kind of catches on and realizes that he won't be able to seclude myself, then he may take on the role he gained. I think Raymer and Hachem have far more class (and skill) than Gold will ever have and will always represent the better side of poker. |

[ QUOTE ]
Somebody needs to enter their 40s to be middle aged. Somebody in their 40s is probably going to be out of place hitting a nightclub with coworkers on Friday night. Some guy who is 36 can do anything that a 29 year old can do, and nobody will question it. Somebody who is 43 cannot act like somebody who is 36. [/ QUOTE ] You're 36, aren't you? |
