[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I don't know if this is exactly WEIRD, but I have huge calves/quads/hamstrings despite the fact that I almost never lifted in the past. Basically, I can leg press more than anyone I know, even athletes who lift almost year round. And my calves are just ridiculously big for someone who never lifted much before a few months ago. [/ QUOTE ] Serious question - are you enormously fat? [/ QUOTE ] I honestly have thought that this could be part of it. I don't consider myself "enormously fat" but I am definitely overweight. Right now I am about 5'11", 220. At my peak, I was around 250, 5'10" or so. |

At my peak, I was around 250, 5'10" or so. [/ QUOTE ] That's probably enough to lay down some pretty dense, solid leg muscle if you did a lot of walking back then (and are still doing it now). |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I've been told I have "preternaturally long" fingers. I had two sets of "baby teeth" before my permanent teeth came in. I have a concavity on my lower left ribcage, just where the ribs attach to my sternum. [/ QUOTE ] If you haven't been examined for aortic abnormalities I would suggest you do so soon. Pretty much everything you describe is a potential symptom of Marfan's Syndrome . The real danger is that in some cases the aorta is weak near the heart and needs to be monitored or surgically corrected. [/ QUOTE ] [censored]. Edit: I've heard of Marfan's before, and worried about it, but dismissed it because I am not particularly tall (5'11"), and I have a round face, not a particularly long one. However, I am the tallest person in my family. The roof of my mouth is arched (I didn't know everyone's wasn't ), and I had to have my upper wisdom teeth cut out because of crowding. One shoulder is slightly lower than the other, but I don't know if that is due to a slight curvature of the spine or not. I'm also nearsighted, and the lens in my left eye may be very slightly dislocated (the image I see from my left eye is noticeably blurrier than the right). I also have stretch marks behind my shoulders; I always have as far as I can remember, back into high shcool, regardless of weight. In short, thanks for something more to worry about. I'll see a doctor about it. |

[ QUOTE ]
I don't know if this is exactly WEIRD, but I have huge calves/quads/hamstrings despite the fact that I almost never lifted in the past. [/ QUOTE ] You sound like my dad. He's about 5'11" 200 pounds but he has 19" calves. Is considered an athletic guy, but he never worked out his legs. His dad had 19" calves as well. I never really see anobody who has rounder calves than him. It's weird. It's almost obscene looking. I got chicken legs (in comparison) from my mom's side. 15-1/2" calves, around. I'm decidedly faster than my father (in his prime) and brothers (who both also have larger calves than myself). However, they are better at blocking out when we play basketball and whatnot. David, measure your calves and PM me with the trip report. I'd seriously be interested to see how close you come. You sound very similar in size to my dad. In case anyone is wondering what 19" around looks like...think of an NFL football. That's about 19" around. |
