[/ QUOTE ] If they weren't on to me, they were at least on to the people around me. I don't know how much time he got, I haven't talked to or seen him. I wanted to take a year off just to have fun, but I think in the back of my mind I just wasn't ready. Either way, it was a big mistake. |

"did you make any real friends in prison?"
Kinda hard to say. I still talk to two people I was locked up with. I'm not sure what you mean by real friends though. "what card games were most popular?" Spades, then Pinochole (my favorite), then poker (7 card stud, 5 card draw, lowball variations) "what was the first thing you did when you got out?" ate a subway sub, visited family, had sex with girlfriend.... in that order. |

What do you feel are the qualities that separate you with respect to your ability to stop engaging in self-destructive behavior? What would you say to someone similarly afflicted, with a drug addiction or mental illness of some kind?

[ QUOTE ]
What do you feel are the qualities that separate you with respect to your ability to stop engaging in self-destructive behavior? What would you say to someone similarly afflicted, with a drug addiction or mental illness of some kind? [/ QUOTE ] I think probably the most important thing for my recovery has been the support of my family. I'm not really sure if I have qualities that seperate me from other afflicted people. I think having to experience over a year in prison has helped me realize there's more to life than drugs. I would tell other people with a problem that it is highly unlikely that they can kick their habit without any help. I could say with some certainty to someone with a heroin problem that kicking it will be that hardest thing they ever have to do. It just consumes every part of your life until you have nothing left. Seek any help you can get from family, (non-addict) friends, and local drug programs. Also I would recommend not using Methadone as a way of kicking heroin, because eventually you'll have to deal with kicking methadone, which is just as bad, if not worse. |
