If u want me to go log up some sources from the intranets finding Catechism quotes i gladly will.

The main thing is, those are sub topics in a broader perspective of what really needs to be seen. Do you want me to follow through with research?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm like to know what you, personally, think. If you've never thought about it and I'm just gonna get canned answers then it's not that interesting.

Anyhow, all the catechism does is carefully avoid saying anything that could actually be contradicted by evidence, assert that humans have souls and that God had a hand, err, somewhere, though they don't say where. And your statement that we didn't 'evolve from monkeys' is contradictory to the catholic church's position in the first place.

source for the pope saying we came from apes plz!

Have you seen this link . How does this video compare with your beliefs. Also, my mother made a career change about 10 years ago and has been an ordained Lutheran minister for about 6 years. Your thoughts on opening up the Preisthood to women?

As a side note, are you from the Ville or just going to school there. One of these days I'm going to take a road trip to watch the Big Red in Death Valley.

[/ QUOTE ]

that video is interesting, the guy is right. it's not all puppies and rainbows, it's imperfection being perfected.

my personal thoughts on the priesthood for women in catholic churchs, is that, God gave women the convent, to become nuns. that is a very special gift, and a special calling similiar to being a priest in the form of chastity, obedience, and poverty.

i grew up in steubenville ohio! i remember going to central vs big red games, i came back for college, and big red is the biggest football team in the state...crazy. they are good havn't seen them in action. come watch FUS rugby if u want a fun game.

And why haven't I received any responses to my questions/statements?

I am getting flooded, please repost or message me! I can't handle the pressure! get to the choppa!

Ok, it was only 2 things, this:

[ QUOTE ]
So you believe that crackers and wine turn into the literal body and blood of Jesus? Do you [censored] not believe in metaphors?

[/ QUOTE ]

In the bible, jesus would have been like JK!!! about they body and blood...but he didn't say it. he was like i'm super serial guys, they were like woah. yep.

[/ QUOTE ]

But catholics don't follow the bible, hardly at all, literally or figuratively. What about the other discrepancies?

[/ QUOTE ]

And this:

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
do u believe in the teachings of the old testament? specifically:

that if u had a daughter u would sell her into slavery? (exodus 21:7)

killing anyone who works on the sabbath (exodus 35:2)

that trimming of hair should be forbidden (esp. round the temple area) (Lev 19:27)

that sum1 who plants two crops in the same field should be stoned to death? (lev 20:14)

if not do u think the bible is wrong?

[/ QUOTE ]

Certain books of the bible, are written specifically as fiction, but they are specified. some of the old testament is written to teach lessons, or some of it is just plain outdated stories, or culture they lived in.

If you read the bible, before the beginning of every chapter, it should explain what the book is about, it's point of view, why it was written, and what the theme is. I havn't had time to look at your quotes yet, but yeah, the world back then is messed up. The world is messed up now, IE slavery, temple hairs etc...but you need to put the point of view into perspective.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's true sir.

[/ QUOTE ]

Only in those new skool, dumbed down bibles is there a teaching explanation at the beginning, explanations that were written much much later than the actual bible.

Surely you see the fallacy? Anybody can publish a bible and have a little blurb a the beginning of each chapter for whatever agenda they wish to express. Gloss over the ugly parts (OHHHH, that... That's just a parable) and highlight the important parts.

[/ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

you got the first part wrong, stereotypically, we dont read the bible. we live through it and hear it at mass, aside from the stereo types.

christs words need to become our actions and beliefs.

also, i see what you mean by falacic (falacied?) pre-texts. what you say makes sense, yet there are certain bibles that are not the complete scripture. this is another can of worms.

i need to look up sources of when the pre-texts were created when i have more time. hope this helps,

ij

I think this is a copout. I went to a baptist Christian school and about 85% of people there picked and choosed what they believed, i.e. they would go [censored] and drink but love god and etc at the same time. You either believe in the Bible or you dont.

Im pretty sure this is because God had a covenant with the people at this time and would not tolerate any sin or something. But it's absurd to believe in a God who told you to stone your child if he sins in your house.

I believe what your asking here is why Catholocism over all else. To be completely honest, i was raised Catholic but didn't choose to follow Christ until a few years ago. Christ is the way the truth and the life and through the Eucharist he gives himself to mankind.

[/ QUOTE ]

What (exactly) does choosing to follow christ mean if you're raised a christian? And what made you become more serious about religion?

Why do you find it so hard to answer questions about evolution, Adam & Eve and the age of the universe directly, and instead resort to humor and deflection? Surely you should stand up for your beliefs, whatever they are?

[/ QUOTE ]

C'mon guys, obviously he doesn't know what they are and hasn't thought about it a lot, so how is he going to tell you? He's all over the map when he's open on stuff, and when he's out of his depth, he closes up. If you're looking for consistency and coherence, you came to the wrong place. There's nothing surprising about that.

[/ QUOTE ]

ok, i make my answers concise as i can, and only touch the tip of the iceberg with this stuff.

i can't answer all of their questions with in depth 5 paragraph essays like you would like me too.

i consistently ask if someone wants sources, and this is my first real thread so i'm sorry if i'm not ne good.

my shift key is broken and it's annoying the hell outta me.

sorry if it's not what you wanted,

I'm saying with a thread like this, you pretty much have to be loaded for bear or it will just be pretty silly. Starting it pretty much implies you'll take the questions seriously and really strive to make clear why you believe what you do and why it's internally consistent.

It's more like a random chat session with someone who's not really paying attention anyway, maybe playing on his gameboy or something.

Thanks for answering my previous questions. Got 1 more that I forgot.

Lets say that Im a really good person, almost never lie, never kill, Im nice to everybody I meet, donate to a charity (lets say a Cancer Charity), do community service, but Don't believe in God despite being given numerous opportunities to do so. I die and turns out God is for real, do you think God would let me into heaven? Do you think I would deserve to go to heaven?

[/ QUOTE ]

it says in the bible that christ says that you can only reach the father through me...like i said, no one knows or has any physical evidence beyond what christ has revealed.

here is a story, i'm sorry my shift button is broke...and this keyboard blows.

5 years ago my moms best friend was in the hospital for some reason, and the nurse accidentally overdosed her with pain killers...by a lot. if i remember correctly she went into cardiac arrest and was dead for all but 10 seconds or so.

she said to my mom, when i died i was in heaven and i was speaking to god and he said, it is not your time yet. she said it was the most euphoric feeling of happiness she has ever experienced, when she was recessitated, she told everyone about her experience.

hope this helps with the whole evidence of heaven thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats a cool story, but you forgot answer my question, would I deserve to go to Heaven... In YOUR book.

Sorry for the double post, on the story you had, about it not being your mom's friends time or w/e.

Surely you realize that thousands of people have told nearly identical stories but instead of it being the Christian God that they were talking to they were talking to Buddha or another religion's God?

Do you think that the person was actually talking to Buddha?

If not, what would be the explanation? Can the explanation be the same for your mom's friends story?

I use Buddha as an example, I have no clue about that religion but you can replace Buddha w/ any God and the point is the same.

BTW: TY for answering my numerous questions I'm really intersted in your oppinions.

People have been doing this "ask me" crap, so I thought i'd give it a shot. I'm new to BBV and Poker. I go to Franciscan University of Steubenville, 2k kids, conservative politically. I love my religion, and well, ask teh questions,

IJ

PS (sarcasm appreciated!) I haz humorz, much lulz to be had.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you believe that Catholicism is a monotheistic religion? Does it matter? I ask cuz the father, son, hg thing is weird as monotheism and then there's Mary's role and all the saints and angels and it just starts to look like there's alot of divine beings hanging around. Plus like Satan, is he not a god and if not, what is he?

Just curious. Thanks.
