Dunno how the rest of y'all do things, but I would donate a lot more playing -EV games in the casinos while I was waiting for a seat in the poker room if I could play until my poker seat was available. GVR used to (still does?) give out pagers if you ask so you can wander the casino and they'll beep you when your seat is ready. Palms pages the whole casino when your seat is available. So...would Wynn/Venetian/etc rather I be hanging around in the poker room reading Cardplayer while I wait for a seat, or be out trying to hit a full house on video poker? I'd believe The Palms gets more slot and table game action from poker players waiting for seats than the rooms that don't make an effort to let you play while you wait. [/ QUOTE ] I stayed at the Wynn this past weekend, and they do have pagers. If you leave your buyin with the brush, they will lock up your seat and page you when you are up. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think the biggest example of this management and marketing error is found at the Venetian in Vegas, and at The Borgata in AC. The Borgata's poker room is a behemoth, on scale with Commerce's main room. We used to joke that it takes 5 minutes to walk from one side to the other. The Borgata's error is the amount of dead space in the room, and at the entrance - why isnt there any table games available for poker players to spend time at while they are waiting for their seat? A bit more than a year ago I met with the Wynn VP of Marketing, she explained that the poker room is planned to be moved into the middle of the pit once Encore opens, surrounded on all sides by blackjack tables. Research has shown that card games in general are progressions for many gamblers, they progress from one game to another. There would be the obvious loss of some blackjack players to poker, but the gain of poker players to blackjack would far outweigh the theoretical loss. (I don't know if this is still Wynn's plan for the future, but it is certainly an ambitious concept!). Now back to the Venetian. The area around the entrance of the poker room is devoid of any game that a poker player is normally interested in. There is no video poker, no blackjack, and its a hike to get to the sports book - all huge mistakes, because there will always be a reduced chance of cross-over gaming from poker players at the Venetian accordingly. In fact since the room is so huge with lots of dead space it would make sense to put two blackjack tables in the lounge! Keep the customers happy! Cliff notes: Casino management needs to wake up, by not putting table games next to the poker room they are ignoring new revenue streams. |

Also, the sports book is about a 30 second walk from the front entrance to the poker room. |

A poker player has to want to go out of their way, there is no "impulse buy" being encouraged. |

I'm not sure what you're looking at. If you're looking out into the casino, the first craps table is about 15ish feet from the entrance to the V's poker room. You walk right by these games when heading to the bathroom. There are 6 or 7 blackjack games. Last night they were all standing dead at $50 minimums. Great job there by the V pricing out the poker players who might actually play while waiting for a 1/2 game or something.

FWIW, I had the same reaction as Photoc from reading TT's post. Craps, BJ and slots right by the poker room all the times I've played there. BTW, I have a love-hate relationship with the V poker room but then again I have a "love-hate" with every poker room in Vegas. YMMV. Best Wishes Howard |

[/ QUOTE ] This gives me a great idea (for the casino, not necessarily the poker room). Have poker tables where each spot has a built in video poker or slot game that you can play while seated at the poker table. May slow down the games, but casino's revenue would increase, and would attract more action junkies to the games. |

Someone else metioned this, but it didn't get discussed:
1. Donkaments. Fish love the Donkament. Schedule 4 Hi buyin donkaments a year. Partner with online pokersites to get seats filled if necessary. Run sattelites. Get the fish in your donkament and the pros will signup. Provide a good tournament experience and side games will spring up. OVERLAY!!! WSOP has all these sponsors and tele coverage and what do the players get? They get to pay vig on the biggest tournament every year. Provide a no vig tourney, or heaven forbid an overlay tourney. With vig/overlay provided by sponsors. 2. Implement Mason's suggestions. Which means having Upper management on the floor chatting up the players. It also means retraining the bad habits out of dealers with frequent training sessions. 3. Hire Patrik Antonius to sit at 30/60. Everyone seems to be in love with him, male and female. |

Also those tables are often unstaffed during the day, whats up with that? |
