he's right.. Olajuwon has Shaq in the defense category. I think he's exaggerating a bit, though. Peak, 100% effort Shaq is the most dominant thing the NBA has ever seen. It just didn't happen often enough to make him the best ever.

Lapoker - ahaha ok.
[ QUOTE ] Bill Walton is more entertaining than 90% of the broadcasters, whether you like him or hate him. I miss his Clippers telecasts. [/ QUOTE ] I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Lawler but it would've been cool to see a crazed, homer Walton call Clips games. -Al |

[/ QUOTE ] Kinda lost me there buddy... -Al [/ QUOTE ] Shaq's lack of ability to show on pick n rolls is a massive defensive problem. As a result, when he was on the Lakers, they could not effectively stop any point guard on a pick n roll. They would simply just shoot the wide open jumper because Shaq did not show properly, because he was too fat to do so. Basic basketball. Why do you think every remotely good PG had great games vs the Lakers? Bibby had some of his career best. |

And IIRC Shaq, at his peak, was a monster help defender and super quick on rotations. Also people are severely underestimating the interior presence of the most athletic 7 footer to ever play the game. Doesn't necessarily show up in block stats but Shaq may be the greatest shot-changer in NBA history (at his peak). -Al |

And IIRC Shaq, at his peak, was a monster help defender and super quick on rotations. [/ QUOTE ] Did you watch the Lakers when Shaq was on them? I live near LA and saw virtually all the games. Defenses purposely attacked Shaq and abused the pick n roll vs the Lakers, to the point they had no choice. Obviously Shaq wasn't the help defender ALL the time, but for a large percentage of the time, he was. (Especially since he had more playing time than anyone else, and really who else are you going to pick? Samaki Walker?) The problem was Shaq's defensive peak was so short. [ QUOTE ] Also people are severely underestimating the interior presence of the most athletic 7 footer to ever play the game. [/ QUOTE ] Hakeem Olajuwon? David Robinson? Bill Russell? Wilt Chamberlain? [ QUOTE ] Doesn't necessarily show up in block stats but Shaq may be the greatest shot-changer in NBA history (at his peak). [/ QUOTE ] You think Shaq, a slow, plodding fat man of a center, could even attempt to reach more balls and driving guards than a lithe big man like Hakeem Olajuwon or David Robinson? |

Hudson dominated the entire series running the same pick and roll play until the refs stole it away from the twolves. |

Vyse / Your Mom - geezus they switched Malone to KG / Hudson as the primary pick and roll defender after Shaq, *a non-peak defender Shaq*, was being abused.
There are *plenty* of ways to defend the pick-and-roll saying the fault lies primarily with the 5 when PGs abuse your team on P/R is totally ridiculous. [ QUOTE ] You think Shaq, a slow, plodding fat man of a center [/ QUOTE ] He was not always a slow, plodding fat man wtf guys! -Al |
