From tonight's Washington-Milwaukee game:

Arenas hits two free throws with 12 seconds left to put Washington up by five. The Bucks have no timeouts left and fire a long pass that is easily intercepted by Butler. Rather than try for a steal or foul to get the ball back, the Bucks allow the Wizards to dribble the last 12 seconds -- 12 seconds! -- off the clock.

Doesn't that seem a bit early to be giving up?

Yeah, I think you got to foul there. A little too cool in giving up... foul, miss, hit a 3. Anything can happen. I hate in college where they take it overboard. (As I'm writing this, NJ just fouled 11 seconds 8 points down. Tolbert critcized it though.)

Meant to post this last night...two things:

- Barkley's endless Suns hate made its regularly scheduled appearance. I'm not exactly sure what his beef is with the team or Colangelo - who I've spent years hating for some reason but then came to find out that he is adored by his employees - but every single time the Suns play on TNT he picks against them...last night he even acknowledged that Phoenix fans are aware of his bias.

- random camera angles...why? In the midst of the game they'll get cute and to to opposite diagonal angles or near court endzone angles. They're totally disorienting and not at all as watchable as the standard mid-court pivot cam. In the name of trying something new/different it just ends up being annoying. I'm not sure if this is relegated to TNT, I've seen it enough to believe it's also on ESPN/ABC.

I never noticed this as a bias, I just thought he's being a typical old pro not liking Suns style for post-season success. I guess he said they should have lost to both LA teams in playoffs, which is an exaggeration, they could have lost, but not should. I'm not a Suns fan especially so it isn't like I was looking out for any bias so you could easily be right.

I really enjoy Barkley and the TNT show. It was nice to see EJ jumping around when they played "Who he play for?". Barkley cracks me up, on the Bulls all-D no O, "this ain't baseball, in the NBA good pitchin' don't beat good hittin'"

anatta,

No, Barkley's anti-Suns bias is very real. I suspect that he's the type of person who expects to get (bully) things his way and when it doesn't work out he lashes out against the establishment. We loved Chuck Rock when he was here and really should have won a title with him (pick your poison - the Suns should CLEARLY have beaten the Bulls in '93 and choked up huge series leads against eventual champion Rockets in '94 and '95), but he doesn't seem to suffer criticism well.

Yes, each and every one of the Suns games since they started winning two years ago, he's taking the other team. Yeah we get it, the Suns suck ass on the defensive end, but his lean is so repetitive that it's purely bias.

Also, we all realize they don't show close-ups on Ernie Johnson this season because of his cancer (?). But from a distance he looks fine. Any update on his status and health? I heard/read that he had some huge-ass growth on his neck but don't see anything like that from the long angle.

He has Non-Hodgkin lymphoma

From Wikipedia,

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer arising from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cells. It is distinct from Hodgkin's disease, another subtype of lymphoma. The non-Hodgkin lymphomas are a diverse group of diseases with varying courses, treatments, and prognoses.

I think the tumor is gone, as I saw it at the end of last season. They seemed to zoom in on him more last night, and like I said, he looked good.

I've heard Doug Collins and other announcers say they're glad he's back and healthy, so I think he's fine now.
