[ QUOTE ]
and I guess people throughout the world are very much into their own country maybe more than the typical Canadian is. [/ QUOTE ] See? Even Canadians know, even if subconsciously, that Canada doesn't matter. |

Jasper,
You are confusing hard facts w/ nationalism/patriotism/etc. Most of the responses in this thread have had nothing to do with "America is great" "Great to be an American" "America is the best country" etc. They are simply pointing out that it shouldn't be surprising at all that Americans (or anyone in the world, for that matter) don't know the names of Canadian provinces, because there's simply no reason to. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think I'm straying further off topic here, but.... But there's also no "reason" to know many other things. (names of authors, composers of music, etc) I guess it comes down to the fact that probably 50% of what I read, watch, etc is Canadian content (the rest being American, European, etc) while it's 99.999% American content for the typical person living in the US. I don't think that is necessarily a good thing. I watch CNN, but I also watch CBC and read the BBC web page. I watch American sports, but I also am reasonably informed about sports that are not popular in the US. It just seems to me (beyond naming provinces or not) that you guys are missing out on a lot by focusing only on things within your borders. Many great things are within your borders, but there is a lot to see, do, and "know about" outside of your borders. |

Jasper,
"It just seems to me (beyond naming provinces or not) that you guys are missing out on a lot by focusing only on things within your borders." You continue to miss the point. Some of the places I have spent decent amounts of time (in no particular order): England Scotland Wales Spain France Italy Mexico Norway Denmark Finland Sweden Germany India Thailand Greece ... Some of the places I would like to visit (again in no particular order): Australia Japan Vietnam Argentina Peru Brazil Ireland Costa Rica New Zealand Hong Kong China Russia ... What many of us are pointing out is that it's very easy to have a broad set of interests about the world without caring at all about Canada. "Many great things are within your borders, but there is a lot to see, do, and "know about" outside of your borders." Right. And when I make the list of things to "know about" outside US borders, nothing about Canada makes the first few pages of that list. |

Is the real point of this thread that you are just an argumentative jackass?

Something tells me that you may be in the 99th percentile of said group when it comes to such activities. |

Jasper,
No. I was simply pointing out that Canada doesn't matter. |
