Jesus, great goal from Messi.

edited to add: This goal is much more impressive when you see the replay. Excellent control with that burst.

certainly looking good for Sevilla.

[/ QUOTE ]

I could easily be wrong here, but I think a draw might be best. Sevilla will go 3 clear of Barcelona with a win and 8 clear of Real Madrid. It would take something pretty special from Real Madrid (and something bad from Sevilla and other top teams) for them to be in the race in the last few weeks. If Real Madrid had held on Sevilla would have gone 4 clear of Barcelona and 5 clear of Real Madrid.

With Valencia having a relatively tough game at Osasuna this could be the week when it gets a bit more spread out up top. Could easily be Sevilla 3 ahead of Barça, 7 clear of Valencia and 8 clear of Real Madrid. If that happens a slip up from Real Madrid or Valencia in the next couple matches could put them all but mathemtically out of the race.

Of course if Sevilla get a loss or draw and Valencia win we're right back to it being super tight. If Sevilla lose and Valencia win it will be Barcelona and Sevilla tied at the top (unfortunately Sevilla lose the tiebreaker), Valencia one point back and Real Madrid 5 points back.

Just looking at that with 1 team 4 ahead and 2 teams 5 ahead Real Madrid are in pretty horrible shape if Valencia win no matter what happens with Sevilla. It's not terribly unlikely to catch one rival 4 or 6 points ahead of you, you just need to win and have them mess up a bit, but catching 3 rivals in that range is quite unlikely.

BTW for Sevilla the big matches that remain:
Valencia - Sevilla matchday 30
Real Madrid - Sevilla matchday 33
Sevilla - Recreativo de Huelva matchday 34
Sevilla - Zaragoza matchday 36
Sevilla - Villarreal matchday 38

For Valencia it's:
Valencia - Sevilla (30)
Valencia - Zaragoza (34)
Valencia - Villarreal (36)

Barcelona
Zaragoza - Barça (29)
Barça - Mallorca (30)
Villarreal - Barça (31)
Barça - Espanyol (37)

I'd say Sevilla have the toughest schedule overall. Barcelona have a tough stretch, then it gets better. Espanyol the second-to-last match would love to beat them to knock them off the title.

Sadly it appears that barring a miracle run Sevilla are fighting for second. Bad league form of late, no doubt a product of some tough European matches, may have done us in.

Top 4 and I'm happy. Top 4 and lifting one of the two cups and I'm exstatic.

It's too bad it's a cliche here because the liga is actually rigged.

Shame Seville couldn't hold on. Atletico looked really poor today, Europe dreams slipping away.
