[ QUOTE ]
The Lakers have a decent array of big men. The success of Suns, Mavs, Bulls etc. has proven that you don't really need a major low-post threat to be a winner anymore. It appears that the NBA is moving in a different direction. What the Lakers really need is a solid point guard that can play some defense - possibly in the Ron Harper mold. When Jordan Farmar is your 2nd best guard, your team is in trouble. It would be nice to have D-Fish back right about now. [/ QUOTE ] The Lakers decent array of big men come nowhere close to Marion/Stoudamire, or even Thomas. The comparison is laughable. The Suns can run that style of ball because they have a point guard who can distribute ridiculously well and probably 2 of the top 5 finishers in the league. To play a fast run and gun style (ie without a good low post guy) you need someone who can set everyone up (Lakers don't have it), someone to finish all those plays (aside from Kobe they don't have it, maybe Odom), and some people to hit open jumpshots and 3s to keep the defense from packing in (Walton is probably their leader here, but even that is pretty sad). I really love Kobe, but the Lakers aren't even close to competing unless they land a huge guy like Garnett. To say their big men are sufficient just because the Suns have shown that you can win without a prototypical center is just wrong |

This is also hopefully old news, but I didn't see anyone post it. Looks like JRich was only fined for whatever happened with the fan on Tuesday, story reports it was only a verbal altercation

What sanctions were taken against Jason Terry for throwing down/pile driving (slight exaggeration) Barron Davis when play was stopped after the ball went out of bounds?

well he got one technical foul. stephen jackson later got 2 technical fouls for clapping with his back turned to an official without saying anything. so im sure jackson will probably get fined and terry will get nothing. 100% standard for the nba.

God, I'm so pumped up/anxious/nervous for this Mavs game tonight. I keep looking at the clock and saying things like "only 3.5 hours until game time". I'm trying to think if there was a football or basketball game I've anticipated like this recently, and honestly, I don't think I've felt like this since the Finals last year. Dirk has to come up huge tonight. In my heart, I still feel like he'll carry the Mavs to victory, but if he doesn't score 38-50 points, they're almost definitely going home. [/ QUOTE ] FYP |

I was rather surprised Terry wasn't ejected. The ref was right there and saw everything.
After the play had been dead for seconds, he attempted to throw down Barron (with some acting involved on Davis part), and succeeded. I thought automatic ejection but it didn't happen. Then I thought, well the league will review this incident and suspend him perhaps for one game. But evidently nothing?? |

if any warrior ever did that like EVER its insta ejection. so maybe not massive conspiracy, but certainly some inequities in officiating, as i have been arguing. which i guess, people change into MASSIVE CONSPIRACY THEORY. i guess saying those things must feel good when youre desperate to discredit what is right in front of your face.

[/ QUOTE ] Not saying that at all. Game 5 overall was offiated very fairly it seemed, outside of that one play. The series so far has definitely been called in Dallas favor, in particular game two. But that is to be expected when you have the leagues best team, with the probably MVP, versus a rag tag bunch of scrappers who hadn't seen the playoffs in 13 years. Most marginal calls will go the way of Dallas. But a conspiracy I think not. Terry should have been ejected, with no suspension. |

The Spurs have had the Suns' number for 3 years now, not just the last 3 regular season games. They control the tempo and they control Nash. At this point, the burden of proof is on Phoenix. [/ QUOTE ] The last 3 years of playoffs don't matter. No Kurt Thomas, no Raja, no Diaw, and Barbosa & Amare have really matured the last two years. This Sun's team finally has front court depth, so only this year really matters. The three games this year went. Game 1 - Spurs win a nail-biter in OT on their own home court during Suns big losing streak to start year, and with Amare barely playing. Game 2 - Suns blow out Spurs in PHX. Game 3 - Spurs win nail-biter in SA. As I've pointed out here many times, the Suns have actually outscored the Spurs during the three games. If the Suns had the extra home game instead of the Spurs it's almost guaranteed the Suns win the regular season series. I think these teams are very evenly matched. The Spurs showed they can shut down a mediocre fast breaking team in Denver, but Denver is no Phoenix. And the Suns have home court. |
