For all the poker players who are interested in investing this article does the best job of emphasizing the shared strengths between the two. Decision-Making for Investors

Its written by Michael Mauboussin, Chief Investment Strategist at Legg Mason. The crux of the article is:
"Strikingly, the best performers in all probabilistic fields tend to have a common and consistent approach that sets them apart from the average participant. This approach has a few key, related elements:
1. A focus on process versus outcome;
2. A constant search for favorable odds;
3. An understanding of the role of time."

To emphasize his points, he refences a wide variety of sources including Michael Lewis, Nicolas Taleb and our own David Sklansky.

Again, not groundbreaking stuff but its very consice and written in a more approachable/intersting manner than a lot of investment articles.

I know I've asked this before, but is there an investing thread?

I know we've got that Jurollo thread about him having the 200k or whatever, but what's the best place to put, say random 20k a month? I've got Vanguard, so within Vanguard, any suggestions? Right now I've got 5 figures in the Index 500 fund, which has been good to me, a foreign fund, and an emerging markets fund. Any suggestions on anything else within Vanguard?

Also, I've had an etrade account for about 2-3 years. I'm pretty sure I should have a scottrade or ameritrade account instead, because they have offers sometimes for free trades, or, in general, the trades are just much cheaper for a casual trader like myself.

Thoughts? Does this deserve it's own thread if there isn't one to bump?

Also, thoughts on any individual stock? I bought Apple at 50 still have a hardon from the heater it went on...

Ship,

You're welcome to start a thread of that nature here, but I think you might get better results in the Business/Finance forum. For these types of specific investing/allocation questions, they can provide great feedback.

In Ireland the new Die Hard is called Die Hard 4.0. Apparently it's still a little to soon over there to hear Live Free or Die Hard.

I saw Die Hard 4 yesterday, it was an entertaining flick, tons of ridiculous explosions, and action scenes but overall I found it pretty enjoyable.

I have to say the worst part was sitting in between my divorced father and mother for the entire movie. I really hate when I am around both of them at the same time.

That and my mom talks more than a [censored] black woman at a movie theater. She was yelling at the screen telling John McClane to do things. (Some examples of my mothers interjected dialog - "Kill her McClane! Kill that bitch!") I guess she thinks she was providing some sort of inspirational support for the fictional character that couldn't hear her.
