***spoilers***
troy, the intention of the ending was pretty much spot on. where stf failed was in the execution. had karen simply saved harold upon realizing the gravity of the situation the story would've been completely worthless. |

Jim Carrey would have been terrible in STF. He's a great comedic actor but almost always a terrible comedic/dramatic actor.

Just came out of Zodiac. Great film. You want the cartoonist to keep digging because you want to know the truth too.
I loved it. |

[ QUOTE ] ***spoilers*** troy, the intention of the ending was pretty much spot on. where stf failed was in the execution. had karen simply saved harold upon realizing the gravity of the situation the story would've been completely worthless. [/ QUOTE ] they could have easily not made that ridiculous creative decision and still had the opportunity to explore the same ideas and have the characters come to the same realizations. My main problem was not that harold was written to die, but that the characters actually rationalized killing him. F'ing stupid. Something as simple as, it's already been written, would have sufficed (and then, come up with a way to not kill him, because him actually dying would have been horrible). The point was taht they talk about what makes life worth living, and relating that to somebody who needs such a drastic event (such as his imminent death) to jar him out of his living coma, and they could have done all that without saying: "the book is more important that your life, tough noogies". Once i got past my hatred of that execution (pardon the pun) i did manage to enjoy the ending. Also, Emma Thompson was great in the movie and i finally realized how hot Maggie Gyllenhal is. |

Two movies:
1)Harsh Times: WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS MOVIE ABOUT????? I really had trouble watching it. Having said this, it wasn't THAT bad. Christian Bale rocks. 2)Miami Vice: An action movie without cheezy lines and retarded FX is ok by me. I really enjoyed it. Gong Li is the hottest chick ever. |

Capote
This movie wavered more between mediocre and good than between good and great. Phillip Seymour Hoffman gave a great performance blah, blah, blah... but great performances dont make up for a boring story and a crappy script. |

Rabbits- David Lynch just pwned me. This is an 8 part series of 5-10 minute episodes of a sitcom that David Lynch released to his website a few years back. It's a one camera setup in the living room of an apartment in a rainy city inhabited by people (including Naomi Watts) wearing rabbit head costumes. It's a sitcom complete with the audience laugh track, applause, and characters standing around waiting for the applause to subside before they continue with the next line. The dialouge seems like it was written for all the episodes, torn into strips, and drawn from a hat because it's just random unconnected thoughts. It may sound kinda funny, but this thing disturbed and frightened me on a level that I didn't know I had. I made the mistake of starting it last night in an empty house and only made it through the first 2 episodes because I was really starting to freak out. I have no clue how Lynch can do that to me like he did. Unfortunately these aren't available on DVD, yet, so the only way to see them is by "alternate" channels. I'd call it a must see if you're a fan of being creeped out at a very primal level. Dead Man - Johnny Depp in Jim Jarmusch's "western" about an accountant who travels west for an accounting job. There he kills a guy, gets hunted down like a dog by bounty hunters, and befriends an Indian named "Nobody". This film is my favorite by Jim that I've seen so far. It's really at heart a simple tale of a journey, told with some great acting, dialoge, and beautiful locations. Johnny Depp is, as usual, great in the titular role and all the random cameos like Billy Bob Thorton and Iggy Pop were just sublime. Very happy that somebody mentioned this hidden gem on these forums because otherwise I probably would have missed it. |
