I want to say thank you to Mr. K and Berge for all this information. This forum is the best news source for this topic on the net, all thanks to you guys.
May I ask what the general scope of actual jobs in Washington is? Are you staffers? Don't get too detailed, especially as I was just curious. I've always been fascinated by politics. Maybe in my next life . |

P.S. I think its great that we have a whole forum of people now conversant in Roll Call, CongressDaily, CQ, holds, UC, conference reports, and so on. I reall am amazed at how quickly everyone has picked up the vocabulary and the sources that drive the agenda on Capitol Hill. [/ QUOTE ] We've had a couple of pretty good teachers in you and Berge. Thanks. |

This has gotten pretty scary if both you and Nate give it a .4 unconditional probability.
That number is very high and says a lot can happen in the next two days. |

Silent,
That is because although time is on our side to the extent it limits their chances, they only need to be successful with one chance to [censored] us, and the probablility of any one chance isn't lessed by failing on others. Thus there is only a weak correlation between time and individual chances, and the individual chances (opportunities to piggyback or pass outright) are mutually independant. |

We also might owe a sarcatsic thank you to Rep. Hastert .... [/ QUOTE ] Seems to me the only ones we really ought to thank are the anonymous senators who put holds on the bill to begin with, thus forcing Frist into all these shennanigans. Warner et al. have just been engaging in turf wars, with internet gambling getting caught in the crossfire. In this case, the enemy of our enemy is just a temporary ally, not really a friend. We may learn that the hard way in some future legislative session. |

Our ability to contribute (useful or otherwise...see silly vote above) relies heavily on our anonymity (spelling?). Lets just say I'm not an intern, nor am I Speaker of the House.
One day perhaps |
