So what you goof balls are all saying is that once you reach the pro level, you've reached such a level of proficiency that you're no longer human and just like a robot. Turn on a switch and perform. And that a teammate making an exciting play will not "pick up" the team in any way whatsoever.
Well you're all correct in that I never played pro sports so I can't say first hand whether you're all correct in this theory of yours. Of course you all have "been there" in your fantasy leagues so you're eminently qualified to make that judgement. |

Toro,
It's true that I never played at the professional level, but even at a big Division-I school, the players were expected to carry themselves professionally and focus on the process rather than the result. By utilizing video mechanical analysis and doing a lot of visualization drills, our coaches sought to teach us how to keep the same level of intensity and focus on every play in every game. It was important not only to stay highly focused in the games, but it was just as important to conserve your energy for the long regular season. Is it true that you get picked up after a ridiculous play? Yeah, it is, but momentum is next inning's pitcher (to paraphrase a common saying). |

[ QUOTE ] Andddddddd they get screwed out of 2 runs, NICE JOB UMPS CLEAR HOMERUN [/ QUOTE ] It's clear if you avail yourself of the camera that is perched high above the wall. If you're an ump on the field? Not so clear. This is the third time I've seen a ball clear the wall, hit that monochromatic board, and bounce back onto the field. I was surprised when the umps got it right the first two times. I was not surprised they missed this one. Maybe it's time to deface that famous green wall with a broad yellow stripe across the top (like every other monochromatic wall/background in MLB)? [/ QUOTE ] I agree with most of what you've said here, but it was a clear home run. The carom the ball took off the wall made it obvious that it landed on a flat surface, not the face of the wall, it was pretty obvious that ball was over the wall. It didn't effect the outcome of the game this time, but something needs to be done to make home runs clearer out there. |

so sick, Tampa lets Igawa off the hook over and over again. Meanwhile, Hammel comes out of the bullpen with a 6+ ERA and pitches very well, yet the score is tied after 5. Sigh...
