Phils definately a good tournament player, but I wouldnt even come close to saying hes one of the best. I doubt with his old fashioned playstyle hes even top 100 in the world ATM in tourns. He never will be the best until he learns how to deal with bad beats, most people gain this skill within their first year of playing poker. And this isnt even mentioning his cash game play, which is worse than the average $25 nl player on party.

bump [/ QUOTE ] I think Phil's 2006 WSOP success speaks volumes against anything you've argued about Phil not being able to play against "new age internet" players. |

Ive always loved the line Hellmuth says to Matusow during that TOC where Matusow is talking about how good he is and is bashing Phil and Phil says something like I play nine-time hold'em champion poker..Shut Matusow up for a little bit

[ QUOTE ] Let's see now. Phil has made his living and supported himself by playing poker since he was what - 22 years old or something? He hasn't had a 9 to 5 job for I guess that means he doesn't know how to play. For the last 20 years he has paid his rent, bought his groceries and put gas in his car with money he has won from playing poker. Yeah - I guess that means he doesn't know what he is doing [/ QUOTE ] pfft, insufficient sample size [/ QUOTE ] nh |

That's not THAT special. You're not going to make a great living calling large bets in hopes to chop.
