[ QUOTE ]
The mermaid walking on knives? That sounds cool. I've read a ton of fairy tales(I've got several big collections), but don't remember that one. Do you remember the name of that story? [/ QUOTE ] Blarg, the knives are metaphorical. Out of love for a human, the mermaid chooses to give up her mermaidness and become a human woman. Among the prices she pays is that every step she takes with her new feet is like walking on knives. This is the famous mermaid whose statue graces the harbor in Copenhagen. Disney of course made a film of the story which I haven't seen, but I seriously doubt that it has much to do with Andersen's story. |

My OOT virgin is getting popped here. Been lurking for a while, and the fact that I'm with the OP on this once has forced me to finally post. The monkeys scared the crap out of me when I was younger. My parents still tease me about it to this day actually. Monkeys just shouldn't be flyin'.. That's effed up.

"I thought the unintentional comedy level was very high"
i thought it was a really well made film, i really liked it. i knew it wasnt real going into it and find it hard to believe anyone could, but i understand people think differently so it's not fair to say that really. i thought it was spooky/cool for instance when the guy accidentally stepped on one of the grave/stones or whatever early on in the film.. youre right it was funny/silly in a lot of ways, but something about it was haunting to me and touched on those same sort of irrational fears one has as a child when the line between reality and imagination is not as clearly divided in the mind. |

Blair Witch scares me too - I thought it was one of the most interesting horror films of the last decade, actually.

As I have stated on this forum before - Invasion of the Body Snatchers (70s) by a factor or 10 over anything else. My parents were afraid to let me see Jaws or Alien because it might scare me too much. But they let me watch this in 4th grade.
I stayed up all night in terror at the completely new idea to my brain that the world could possibly be taken over by some outside force, and that my parents, family, nothing was 100% guaranteed permanent. I finally fell asleep and of course had dreams that the pod people were chasing me everywhere. I distinctly remember the point where I just gave up and decided to become a pod person. I was just too scared, and too tired of fighting/running. I can understand now how people could go through so much they finally just want to die. Ugh. It took me weeks to get over this movie. I remember sitting on my porch a couple days later looking at my neighborhood, thinking how it didn't look or seem quite the same. And never would. Everything just seemed a little darker, harsher, more real, more defined (if that makes any sense). Looking back I would honestly have to say it was one of the most traumatic things that happened to me as a kid. Right up there with several hamster "incidents". (Great now I'm literally tearing up over something that happened 27 years ago. Nice.) Edit: Salem's Lot also scared the crap out of me. Similar concept. |

Saw The Fly, along with The Alligator People, when I was five in the theater. My aunt took me. First movies I had ever been to in a theater as far as I can remember, and I still recall the blinding sun upon leaving the movie theater. Changed my life. And scared the hell out of me.

Halloween The Children - not children of the corn The Evil Some of the other movies mentioned I thought were very scary, but I was older than 10 by then. |

scariest movie I saw as a kid was definitely "Jaws". When I saw it listed at the top of "50 Scariest Movies of all time" list, it just validated why I saw most of the movie with my eyes covered!

Wow, I really thought Blair Witch was a complete waste of my time. I was routing for the camera chick to get the axe first. She annoyed the piss out of me.
