Trillian is a standalone software that allows you to be logged in from multiple other clients like ICQ, AIM and MSN afaik.

You should still be able to use AIM Express (unless you cannot get on aim.com). Otherwise trillian works or if you would like to just get on a voice chat server, I can provide a Ventrillo server for the coaching session this week.
