Found this www.fightfantasy.com website which examines some of these. Good stuff, though not any more scientific than our discussion.

This thread examines the Bear vs Elephant issue.

This one looks at Tiger vs. Hippo.

I'm still not completly sold (I do take back the man versus elephant one though after seeing the video, make sure you do that). One of the problems Irwin had was that ledge. I don't think UFC man will have to deal with that.

Seriously, I don't want to spoil the fun and ruin the poll or anything, but the elephant beats all these animals hands down. Generally, elephants are pacific, but if they have to fight, they would crush anything.

An African elephant is just a bit slower than a human. An Asian elephant is about equivalent. You can outmaneuver elephants by making only left turns, but in such a small area you are doomed.

(I'm not just responding to you here. In fact, not to you at all. Oh well.)

Additional info about hippos that I know for a fact:

Their endurance is incredible. Sometimes, when two males are desiring the same female hippo they fight to the death, and these fights have been known to last 6+ hours.

Now that I think about it I remember a special I saw on hippos.

Hippos are not really water animals. They can't swim. They will destory their opposition on land.

Hippo is my 1985 Villanova pick.

So how tough is the Rhino's skin? I'm having a tough time finding anything on that. That is the closest one by far in the voting.
