Well as long as we are arguing semantics, I believe anyone using poker as their only source of income is a "pro" by definition. Just like I'm a pro software engineer. Doesn't mean I'm the best at it, or even particularly good, but it is my profession.

Wickss' profession is now poker. So he's a professional poker player. The word "pro" doesn't necessarily imply that one's job is lucrative, just that that's what they do for a living.

Ya, I know plenty of people who suck at their jobs that are nonetheless professionals.

How is this becoming one of my favorite threads? I want daily updates!

Yeah true, I guess I see more the sport aspect of the game where skill determines professional status as opposed to the job aspect.

Although I don't know I buy that anyway, if I have a job but make more than Wickss when I play poker am I any less of a pro than him just because it isn't my only means for aquiring income? Would quitting make me a pro lol?

Kevin,

Imo, yes and yes. Not that any of this matters.

Lol yeah it doesn't, but I think this whole thread is pretty rediculous so I felt like adding on.

Luthar,

You will get your wish regarding the consequences. I play far less poker than wickss, but read the forums MUCH more than he does. So, sometimes, I have to explain what all of this means (insider language, inside jokes, etc.. ), but I have been strongly encouraging him to do exactly as you advised.

Wiggs,

You hit it spot on with your analysis. In the end, it is just semantics, so Kevin I definitely understand where you are coming from, but by the strictest definition he is a pro. It might be laughable, but for now we will leave it at that.

Finally, Kibby,

You also will get your wish. I have advised wickss to post daily results and also to seek advice from the many good minds on this forum. Because of you all, this is a great thread. Oh yeah, and partially because of wickss borderline insanity.

Dictionary.com's definition's of the word would imply aspects of both skill and source of incoming/"living" pertaining to being a professional. That said:

1) The OP is, by definition, a professional poker player. You cannot deny this in the context of the english language and/or in defining the term itself.

2) A Pro can *also* be someone very skilled at something and does not necessarily only pertain to money when used in many appropriate english contexts (again, as stated in the definitions). Read through the definitions and it to will become apparent I hope.

An update for wickss loyal minions. You will be happy to learn that today he is playing the 6's on pokerstars. Also, for at least today anyway, he is playing his tournaments in sets of 9. He is up $1 on the day so far. I guess thats better than being down a dollar.

Wickss, you're an inspiration... I'm gonna quit my $40k/yr job, and play $10NL for a living... Screw insurance, 401k and everything else, who needs it?

In all seriousness, gl man!
