Barry also said that if he could short-buy into a game, he could beat it for more than he does... (something to that effect)

Sort of on the lines of Ed Miller's shortstack NL strategy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I heard that. But I didn't hear his reasoning for a limit game. Would the pre-flop strategy change as massively as in short stack NL?

a) Newer players benefit more or less by a shortstack strategy (yes or no)

If yes -- isn't it not pointless?

b) depending on how you play, you can be a solid player and do better with a shortstack strategy (especially if there are bankroll considerations) (yes/no?)

It's not for everyone all the time ... but it's certainly NOT pointless.

I have tried this strategy and it's

a) pointless
b) doesn't benefit a good player
c) pointless

I am not familiar Ed Miller's short stack NL strategy. That said, I have been buying in for the minimum in the 3-500 game. I have found some big advantages to having a smaller stack. It reduces implied odds for other players, and they know when I am pushing hard, I am pot committing myself. I think I get more respect than if I had a larger stack. Once I get a larger stack, I adjust my style of play accordingly.

I imagine if he were to do a real short buy-in for a NL game his strategy would basically be that you see in Ed Miller's "Getting Started in Hold 'em" -- which, by the way, is a tool I've used to get not only many people into poker, but got them started as winning players...

Pointless - I think not.

Example. Woman I recently taught how to play poker. She was shortstacked and went all-in with her raise pre-flop.

The flop had an Ace. She would've had to fold with the action in front of her. But she was all-in...

...and got her set.

One example, but there are many others.

The day I hit quads or top full and am sitting $100 behind is the day I quit poker...isn't this why we're playing NL?
