I think the nits are underestimating just how many people do this out of laziness, and the badasses are underestimating how many do this because they don't know. I remember some loon dissecting one of my posts a while back and thought it was hilarious that he wasted his time doing this, especially since it should have been obvious that I just didn't give a [censored].

Also, big LOL at people who get upset at "prolly" or "gonna" or "gotta." I'm pretty sure just about everyone knows that these are not real words.

how can you guys be serious? when people say something like:

"yeah their going to europe next week"

you're saying they actually KNOW AND REALIZE that their usage of "their" is incorrect, but they just let it slide due to laziness?

REALIZE

Not necessarily. I'm willing to bet that 90%+ of the posts on this forum have little to no thought put into them. That would be a different kind of laziness. They also could have something typed out, realize a mistake, and not change it because it really makes no difference if people will understand what they are saying anyway.

I sometimes think people on this board have a different definition of typo than I do. In my eyes, a typo is when someone 100% knows the correct spelling but messes up on the keyboard somehow. Hence, I find it impossible to believe that "their" instead of "they're" or "there" is a typo.

yup, right again. a typo is like when you leave a letter out by accident or invert 2 letters, like if i was typing really fast, it's conceivable that i could misspell a word like could by typing cuold or something.. that would be an obvious typo.

same with spelling errors, people will just say they don't care, i just think it's most often BS, and they just don't know how to spell.

On a slight tangent...

Why can noone on 2+2 spell "ridiculous" correctly?

___1___

[/ QUOTE ]

It's my worst faux pas. I blame friends who pronounced it as reediculous. Now it's stuck in my head that way. Thank god for the red squiggly line.

I have pretty impeccable grammar when I'm trying, but I'll admit that after typing many of my posts, I go back and find I've used your/you're, they're/their and its/it's wrong.

I know the usage is wrong. I see the problem right away and fix it. But when I'm typing I just try to get the words down so I don't lose my train of thought, and apparently my brain doesn't type homonyms all that well.

The only problem I have with grammar or slang is when it makes meaning unclear. 'Irregardless' is perfectly clear if you've ever heard someone drop it in conversation, and so is 'I could care less'.
