I have a love/hate relationship with Best Buy. I'm gadget freak, so I go in there a bunch. I hate the way they give you the hard sell on the service plan, along with asking you 1,569 other questions when all I'm trying to do is buy something. Would you like to buy the service plan? No. May I ask why? Because the 'service plan' is the biggest consumer rip-off ever. [blank look from zit faced 17-year-old kid] Um... Can I have you phone number? No. [blank look] Um... Will you be using your Best Buy rewards card today? No. Do you have a Best Buy rewards card? No. Would you be interested in applying for a Best Buy rewards card? It's free. No. Would you like to sign up for 3 free issues of Entertainment magazine? No. Just shut the [censored] up and take my money FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! [/ QUOTE ] Awesome. I totally agree. This whole process pisses the [censored] out of me. |

Phoenix Alarm in particular and home alarms in general.
I think I posted about my Phoenix Alarm experience before. But in case I didn't, here it is in a nutshell: I bought a house in Phoenix. We bought an alarm system that is monitored by Phoenix Alarm. We moved to California, to an apartment. Not only is it out of the Phoenix Alarm service area, it's not even a house. Nevertheless, Phoenix Alarm decided that, because I gave 3 weeks termination notice instead of 4 weeks, I would be charged for an entire year of service that I never used (and the new home owner couldn't use). They absolutely refused to give me a refund of any kind. So I paid for the entire year of 2004, despite the fact that I lived in that house for only 2 weeks in 2004. Then, despite the fact that I submitted my cancellation paperwork 11 months in advance, they gave me months of runaround before they finally confirmed in writing that I wouldn't be charged for the year of 2005. Even companies as notorious for bad service as health clubs and cable companies didn't attempt to charge me after I left the state. Not Phoenix Alarm, which seemed intent on making me permanently pay for alarm monitoring services. I'll never buy any alarm monitoring service again. |

Wal-Mart is the cheapest option for groceries here. Target and Albertson's (Shaws) are expensive by comparison and Wal-Mart is convenient to go to because there's one by my house and one by where my gf works. Super 1/Brookshire is close on price, but have worse selection and aren't as close.
I'd never buy anything that mattered there - clothes, for example. |

for a rather enlightened "smart" forum, there sure is a lot of ridiculous extreme left wing (fiscally) ideals being nutured in this post.
I mean, come on, you guys seriously have a problem with Walmart "forcing" its employees to work for low wages, "forcing" consumers to buy their products and "forcing" small town businesses out of business? I mean, get a clue. Walmart is the most convient topic for left wingers to bash on but please don't tell me their propiganda actually is effective on rational people |
